The Infamous Creepers
I just went online to pay my bill for U-verse and saw that they had changed me to an unlimited data allowance each month for being such a good and loyal customer. Nice Gesture I thought. However I also noticed the bill was ridiculously high. In fact, when I originally switched to U-Verse a few years ago it was only about $218.00 a month which was about half what I got with Dish. Now we are within spitting distance of $300 per month and I haven't changed my service at all. I decided to compare my old bill from a year ago with the one I just got and I made a startling discovery. All the sneaky little surcharges that AT & T puts on the bill had all creeped up in various amounts (and I'm not talking taxes or government fees so don't blame them). All in all every basic service had gone up in amounts ranging from 5 cents to $2.00 each. In all my bill has gone up $16.90 a month without me lifting a finger. I hate to tell you but giving me a loyalty rewards while adding money to my bill behind my back DOES NOT EQUAL LOYALTY. If this keeps happening I guarantee when that bill hits $300.00 a month I'm out of here. Its only fair to reward loyalty WITH EQUAL LOYALTY AT&T so you'd better come up with better pricing on your packages or its hasta la vista baby.

Hi @rittzywriter,
You can find more information regarding the data changes here.
In regards to your plan, our promotions are designed to expire and listed on the monthly bill. If you log into your account at att.com, you can check to see if any others are available. We can also look into this. Feel free to send us a message by clicking here. Be sure to include your name, 9 digit U-verse account number, phone number, and the best time to reach you.
We will get back to you as soon as possible via email. In the meantime, let us know if you have any other questions or concerns!

Judging by the responses I am getting from AT & T employees, its clear they are either clueless to the problem or are responding with the standard canned answers required to protect the companies behind. First off, the offers you generate may be scheduled to expire but that has nothing to do with the ridiculous creeping fees. My initial offer expired years ago (been a customer of yours for well over 10 years). Secondly, you can notify customers of your creeping fees in writing all you want and give them ample notice and breakdown. IT DOESN'T CHANGE THE FACT THAT YOU'RE CONSISTENTLY RAISING OUR RATES WHICH IS THE PROBLEM. I switched form dish long ago because they were charging me nearly $400 a month for services which AT&T now provides. I switched because it literally cost half that with AT&T. Now the fees for these services are nearing the costs of the service I left so why should I bother staying. If AT&T is going to compete they better reign in their greed or they are going to start losing customers. THAT IS THE POINT.

rittzy, does a loaf of bread cost the same as it did 10 years ago? How about your water bill? Garbage collection? Taxes? Restuarant bill? Does McDonald's still even have a dollar menu?
Prices go up. Companies have funny ways of trying to hide it. Proctor & Gamble hope that you don't notice how their shampoo bottles are shrinking, or that that a "pound" of Folgers is about 13 ounces these days. Some of AT&T fees are legimate pass throughs from governmental costs (e.g. USF, franchise fees, local 911 fees). Some are passthroughs of other costs that probably have just been sucked up into the basic rates (e.g. local rebroadcast fees). Some are a bit questionable. And if you don't like them then you are surely able to look at the competition.
Maybe Dish prices have gone up in 10 years as well. Be sure you evaluate the entire cost of signing a new contract with them (I add up the prices for every month of the entire contract, including any installation or other one time fees and/or discounts and divide by the number of months)
EDIT: BTW, ATTU-verseCare made an offer to look into your situation and asked for you to send them a PM. I don't see any indication that you did or what came of that conversation.
