What information do you share about your customers?
Earlier this afternoon, my in-laws had a door-to-door sales rep for AT&T come by and inquire regarding their home phone, TV & Internet services. When my father-in-law answered the door, he (the rep) asked my father-in-law if he handled the home phone, TV & Internet. When my father-in-law stated "No, my daughter does", your rep proceeded to state "oh, is that Carol?". Carol is my father-in-law's wife (my mother-in-law) and does live at that address; although, I'm curious as to who these reps are & what information is provided to them in order to solicit sales on behalf of AT&T?
I ask this question based solely on 3 distinct events that took place during the 90 seconds he was at their front door (which the SkyBell video of is kinda amusing).
1) He pulled out his phone and started to take a picture of their front door until my father-in-law opened it... he then backed up and stated "I'm not trying to be creepy..." with an explanation as to why he was taking the picture.
Does AT&T conduct any form of background check on these sales reps prior to giving out names and addresses?
2) He knew my mother-in-law's name.
What information does AT&T give out and what controls are in place to ensure that it's protected?
3) He asked for some food.
How many new customers are required before you allow your door-to-door sales reps to eat?
Now, just to be fair, he was respectful, light hearted and clearly unaware that their SkyBell was recording the entire video (which has now been shared on Facebook), although I would still appreciate some follow-up to my questions.
Thank you!
(You don't have a forum setup for "Door-to-Door sales", so I simply chose the U-Verse TV forum for my post - per the suggestion from one of your supervisors at 611 customer service)
