Why are you guys so bad at this?
I've been an AT&T customer for 4 or 5 months now, give or take, and so far I am not remotely impressed with the quality of service. Aside from the internet going out more frequently than is acceptable, and being the only TV provider I've ever heard of whose media gateways don't automatically reset after a power outage but have to be reset manually, which makes it not record any DVR'd shows if the power was interrupted while you weren't home to reset the bloody thing...
ASIDE from those rather serious technical issues, there was a "technical issue"(the customer service representative I spoke to couldn't or wouldn't narrow it down to anything more specific or helpful than that) that caused our autopayment for this month to not go through, and we're suddenly informed our bill is past due. The card on file was fine: ample funds available, not expired or cancelled, etc. The payment just wasn't accepted on AT&T's ends, because reasons.
Since then, none of our shows have recorded. All day today, there were at least 10 scheduled recordings and it just skipped them all...I can only assume it's because of our "overdue" bill, we had our service partially interrupted for an issue AT&T caused. Ridiculous. Simply ridiculous.
We weren't given much of a choice, considering the only two providers in our apartment building at Comcast and AT&T. We went with AT&T because, I mean...SURELY they couldn't be worse than Comcast, right? Now I'm not so sure. If issued like this continue to persist, I think we may...and I never thought I'd hear myself say this...consider looking into service from Comcast when our promotional rate with AT&T ends.

Hi @Mr.HatAndClogs,
Sorry to read of the trouble you have had with the services. If power outages are frequently, we are limited on what we can do to resolve this. We can only address issues with our equipment. What we can do is check and verify everything is grounded correctly and replace the equipment. In the past, that has helped.
In regards to the bill, we can look into the auto-pay if you wish as well. Send us a detailed message by clicking here. Provide your name, account number, phone number so we can verify account and let us know the best time to reach you.
at the top right corner of your screen for a response.
Keep an eye on the

@Mr.HatAndClogs On all Uverse RGs, IPv6 causes disconnects, rebooting and browsing problems.
Disable IPv6 in Moto/Arris RGs (510/589/599) info here:

Disable IPv6 in 2wire/Pace/Arris RGs (3800/3801/5031/5268) info here:

All of my equipment has automatically rebooted after the many power outages I've had over the more than 7 1/2 years I've had Uverse TV/Internet.
Might try this to get it recording again:
If the DVR functions are still not working properly, try a Non-Destructive Disaster Recovery.
Unplug the power cord of the DVR from the wall or from the back of the box and wait ten seconds. Plug the DVR back in.
When three white dots appear on the screen, unplug the DVR again. Repeat this process two more times.
Plug the DVR back in on the third time and leave in. Three white dots appear followed by a gear with a status bar at the bottom of the screen.
If the Disaster Recovery screen does not appear, repeat the steps above. If the Disaster Recovery screen appears, wait until completion.
If the Non-Destructive Disaster Recovery does not work, follow the steps for a Force Disaster Recovery
Re-downloads all the software. Will not erase recordings, takes a bit of time or so. I do one every few months to get rid of any bugs in the software. Good luck 😉
Chris

I just don't understand why someone would design it that way, requiring a manual reboot as opposed to just restarting itself.

@Mr.HatAndClogs It's the RG (modem/router combined). not the DVR you mentioned, you can diable IPv6.
Can give any DVR a Non-Destructive Disaster Recovery though.
