Why did my monthly U-verse bill increase if my promotion hasn't expired yet?

When I signed up to the u-verse service with AT&T we agree on a price of $129 per month plus tax for 12 months. I am into my 8th month and they billed me $130 instead. I called them and they said because they are in a highly competitive business and costs is going up. I asked them if I lost my job my can I pay you less? It is only a dollar but the point is we had an agreed upon price for a year and they did not honor their agreement. They even have the audacity to say they increase the price for everyone not just me. Is it so hard for a business to honor their agreement? Needless to say, I will be changing my services.

You are still getting the same $$ off the price that we all had to pay, they were not guaranteeing a price point.

ATT prices things so many $$ off the regular price, so increases are absorbed as the regular price has gone up the same amount. 😉

I disagree.  When someone who is authorized to make decisions, they are normally bound to those decisions.  It sounds as if AT&T is above all agreements.

Sorry that's the way ATT has been doing discounts for more than 15 years that I personally know about.  Start w/regular price take xx dollars off and that 's the price.  If the Feb price raises the package price, yours will go up and maintain the same $$ off the new price. 😉

U-verse is the best service, but mine went up 7 dollars. Really disapointing for such good service.

I agree. Same thing happened to me. To me it is just straight out lying.

As said, typically AT&T is advertising and agreeing to a discounted rate and/or excluding certain fees.  It's in the fine print.

Also all IPTV increase $3 and all internet packages increased $1but will not affect till discounted promotions expire. This group is charged more ($4 total) but receive additional ($4) discount till promotion expires. Result if under $51 discount now raised to $55... At completion of 12 month promotion your new rate would be $55 higher if do not renew another 12 months by contacting the detentions group.

User would not get additional $4 discount, it would be $4 higher, but still getting the same x$$  off the regular price, now $4 higher.

Start w/$51 off $185 package price = $134/mo, after Feb 1 package price $189, so $51 off yeields new price $138/mo, price paid on Feb billing to end of contract. 😉

Edit: If you are on a current U-verse promotion, your price discount will continue until the promotion ends or expires.

Price discount means x$$ off the regular fee.

I agree, AT&T's prices are going up too quickly and their rates are TOO high. I enjoy their service, but for their CONSTANT increases and their FAR TOO DIFFICULT TO REACH customer service reps.

I have been loyal to AT&T. We had our landline from 1965 until last year when their rates become ridicilously high. I've had U-Verse television and Internet since early 2009. Each year their rates go up, far too high.

When I started with U-verse I was on the 30-30-30 plan and paid $30 each for landline, U200 television and Internet. Over the years I had to reduce it to only television and Internet to afford their rates.

My bill for these 2 services was $100+tax. Now they've increased it to $150+tax. When I called retention about a promotion or something to reduce the rates, I spoke with a very unconcerned gentleman that thought I had a good deal. I don't think having your fee increased by 25% in one year is a good deal.

AT&T doesn't care enough about retaining good customers. I don't know what their profit margins are, but they seem too greedy to annually increase their rates so drastically.

I'm tired of spending hours on the phone trying to beg them for an affordable rate. I dont' even know that I want cable/digital television anymore. I think I will just find an affordable company for my Internet needs; and view Netflix and local television.

As far as the 1 year agreement with a set price goes, that is exactly what I did and it has gone up continuously and my year still has 4 months left.

My bill went from $180 to $214 so I don't recommend anyone to believe what you are telling them.

I inquired today about my bill going up again this month, and was told a 3 month discount expired.

3 month discount???

The price was supposed to be set for a year.

Can you say liars?

I am doing the buyout and it will save me over $60 for 14 months which comes out to a savings of $840 with same services with one exception.

I currently have "24 mbps turbo" with AT&T that drops to 1-2 mbps at times, and with Charter, I will have 100 mbps pipeline.

To qualify for contract buyout program order and install a qualifying new customer Triple Play Promotion or limited Double Play promotion (Note offers not available in all areas). A copy of the final bill from previous provider with early termination fees clearly marked and completed in addition to the 'Charter Contract Buyout Form' are required to qualify for the contact buyout program. Upon receipt of the forms and verification of eligibility, a check in the amount equal to the early termination fee charged by your previous provider on your final bill (not to exceed $500), will be mailed to your Charter service address. Contract buyout forms must be received by Charter within 60 days of installation of the Charter Triple Play or 2 weeks from the date listed on the competitor's final bill statement, whichever is later. Contract Buyout form can be found at https://www.charter.com/mycheck.

As long as you continue to pay it without taking any measure they will continue to raise it.  Remeber the squeaky wheel gets the grease.  I posted comments on their social media and got results right away.   I have to say the only person I have ever delt with at AT&T that seemed to care about their customer.  Got a new plan with much lower rate and the made it retroactive.

Nobody should have to call AT&THIEF every month or 2, to beg for their bill to remain what is was supposed to be to start with.

That is completely ridiculous and they do not always lower the bill back to the "AGREED" upon amount.

They are dishonest and corrupt.

They are just doing whatever they can get away with and everyone is supposed to think it's OK???

WOW!

If you had an agreement for a specific time period, you should be able to call & get them to credit your account for the difference.  If you have 4 months left, ask them to credit 4 x $ whatever the increase is so that you break even.  if one person won't agree to it, you call agin later, same day, then again if you have to.  If someone is being difficult & argumentative, don't waste your time with them.  Just call back until you get someone who is nice.  Always call Retention.

It's the same game with Comcast.  I agree that it's ridiculous that we have to go to so much trouble, but for those of us on a tight budget, it's either that or another kind of service that's more limited, like Hulu or Netflix or Prime.

ATT is using deceitful sales tactics- Please everyone, I need your help to get the attention of the Attorney General's office- they handle companies that do this kind of stuff.

Many companies will use deceitful tactics, but once authorities get ear of it, they investigate & force the companies to change their practices as well as compensate the customers it abused.

They sold me a contract for one year that I'm liable for if I try to break, yet 2 mths into the contract they raised my rate, this is a vioalation no matter how att tries to explain it.

But what happens is each csr gives you the run around & you either believe them, roll over & continue to pay them, or you leave them & go to another company (which they still get their money for your year contract) & they continue to get away with it, until finally an authority hears about it & a formal complaint is made & they investigate it.

I am filing complaints against att for several different violations, especially their sales practices, when the technicians showed up, they told me it was ok that the sales persons lied to get my biz cuz the sales persons don't know how the u-verse wireless products work. With so many people out of work, & the amount of revenues that ATT has, they should be hiring qualified sales persons who know exactly what they are selling.
