Why not offer good existing customers deals?
my UVerse bill has gone through the roof but I'm not eligible for any deals although I've been a good customer for years. I'm seriously considering changing to another provider because almost $300 a month is getting out of my budget.

If you don't have any grandfathered discounts or pricing, then you could join those who regularly get all worked up by complaining to the rententions dept and hop from one promotional discount to another. Or you could examine your current services and see if you really need them - downgrade a tv or internet level, get rid of any special channels, drop voice...

I go the retentions route, once per year.
