A switching to DIRECTV Stream question

I am a current DIRECTV satellite user, have been for over 20 years, I am considering switching to DIRECTV streaming. My concern is being able access channels in my channel package using a browser, or app. For example, I watch CNN and TCM (Turner Classic Movies) from a browser and the TCM app on my iPad. I am able watch them by using my DirecTV account using the "PROVIDER" sign-in option. Will I be able to do this with my DirecTV Stream account?

I am also debating about purchasing at least one Stream Device, this would be for ease of use, for some in my family, does this device work like a satalite box, with a guide, favorites features etc? I use AppleTV devices for other TVs.

Any major drawbacks to Stream vs Satellite?

thank you all for your help and feedback.

I switched from satellite to stream. Yes, you can access programing on a web browser, apps, or a DirecTV Stream box. We have two homes and it works great for us as we travel back and forth between them.
Switching over from satellite, I think you will like the box better. You can access the channels by punching in the channel number with the remote. Using the apps you have to scroll through the guide with the up and down remote buttons. The channel numbers are the same for each channel, on both devices, so if you are used to the channel numbers, the switch over is easy. You can view the channels by either numbers or alphabetically.
But you will find that the features of Stream are not a good as the ones the satellite has. Some of the features you have on satellite are not yet available on the box or apps, especially when recording shows.

Thank you for this response, this is very helpful.

How many hours of recording come with streaming? I don't keep a lot of recordings, I usually delete after watching. One feature I use the most is scheduled recording for some shows.

Streaming has unlimited DVR storage (cloud DVR), although recordings do expire after 9 months IIRC..

The unlimited DVR is only available if you subscribe via on-line. Do not go to a store. Per their documentation:

"Online only. New DIRECTV STREAM customers only. Offer not available to DIRECTV and U-verse customer switching to DIRECTV STREAM. Data connection req’d. Recordings expire after 9 months. In a series recording, max 30 episodes stored (oldest deleted first which may be in less than 9 months). Restrictions apply."
