Astros 9/25. Recorded MLBTV instead of ATT SportsNet. Won't let me watch. ARRRGGGHHHH!!
Venting here. Planning to complain to proper authorities.
Why does Astros Series Record NOT pick ATT SportsNet as FIRST priority?
First off, this happens when the Astros play the Texas Rangers.
I have the Astros set up as a Series Record on AT&T SportsNet. It SHOULD record THAT channel for every game.
WHY OH WHY if I am an Astros fan does it NOT understand that i want MY team's broadcast and NOT the Rangers broadcast.
Any algorithm or AI and certainly a human should understand that.
I always have to reset to individual recordings each day when we play the Rangers.
ANYWAY, last night 9/25, the Astros/Mariners game started at 8:40p CST. After the wife and kids to bed about 9:30 i sat down to watch the game on delay as I almost always do.
But NO, it was recording the MLB Network (also carrying the game) and told me I DID NOT HAVE THE RIGHTS TO WATCH IT (of course i don't because I don't subscribe to MLB TV).
I tried to fix this. I stopped the recording on MLB and went to the guide and find ATT SportsNet. I hit record and it tells me it is recording. BUT NOOOOOO... it STILL begins recording MLB TV again.
THIS should be simple. You want the Astros. You should get the Astros broadcast as long as it is there.
I understand if it is on AppleTV or FOX Sunday Night exclusively, but if the game is ON ATT SportsNet with our broadcast team, it should have that as the PRIORITY record.

You should be happy that it even recorded! Nothing changes with the service.

It didn't record. I don't have rights to watch the game on MLB apparently.
I could watch it LIVE on ATT SportsNet, but could not record it.
AND it was a great game with Vintage Verlander worth watching from the beginning.
Fortunately, I was able to record the 6am rebroadcast on ATT this morning. Just checked and it is all good.
BUT still a problem that should be addressed.

@DIRECTVhelp Nothing in the link you posted is relevant to the poster’s issue. The problem has nothing to do with their hardware and everything to do with the fact that series recordings don’t allow for selecting the particular channel that should be recorded (or for sports team recordings, to ensure the channel the system selects is one the subscriber is actually subscribed to). This issue has been reported by numerous users for some time. Perhaps you could pass the problem report up the chain and/or to the developers?

Jrandomuser I believe you are right and have started a chat thru DM with them.
For the sake of the experiment, i did reset my box last night. The Astros were not on MLB though, but are on tonight. We will see which channel records.
Now that i know others have been having the same problem, I will be diligent and continue the fight with y'all.
THANKS.

I guess this conversation is dead until next season, though probably not "resolved."
As i said above, now i know i'm not the only one i will complain more quickly next year.
Here is what i wrote on my final PM:
"Hello again. My Streaming DVR did NOT record MLB channel last Wednesday night. The regular Astros season on ATT SportsNet is over, so we will see what happens next year when the Astros play the Texas Rangers. My personal opinion is there should be a way that if you set up to record the Houston Astros games, the priority should be the local broadcast channel and only record another channel if they are not airing the game (ie because of exclusive Apple TV, ESPN, etc. rights) Thanks for your help and looking into this."

@DIRECTVhelp A platitude and the same irrelevant link as the previous “Help” rep provided. Hopefully the part about passing the bug report to someone useful is true.
