Audio prob with DirecTV Stream app on Roku
The DirecTV Stream app has a serious audio problem on Roku devices. I've experienced it on four different Roku + stream sticks and the Roku forum is full of complaints and questions. The problem is clearly unique to the DirecTV app. Audio will suddenly drop in volume to nearly inaudible or get a lot of static in the audio stream just at random. Occasionally it will come back on its own after a time, but changing stations appears to fix it. It's terribly annoying to have to switch channels and switch back--often several times within a program hour.
Fix the app to work properly on RokuOS or folks are going to get fed up and switch to YouTubeTV or HuluLive.

This may help. I have 7 ROKU devices on TVs at my home. All but 1 are WiFi only devices. 1 has both WiFi and Ethernet connectivity, which I use the Ethernet connection only. The one with Ethernet connectivity does not have the sound issues. The WiFi-only ROKU devices periodically have the sound issues (static, bop-bop-bop noises, volume levels dropping, volume levels increasing). Like others, I circumvent this issue by changing the channel (during commercials) and then change it back to the previous channel that I was watching, which corrects the problem. So, it appears (at least to me) that this volume issue is related to WiFi only (at least in my home). BTW I want to add that the firmware levels of all of my ROKU devices are current and up-to-date. Hope this helps.
P.S. I am an AT&T retiree, and I was an alpha tester on the AT&T TV app, which is now known as DirecTV Stream app.

It is important to note that no other streaming app has this problem on my ROKU devices. It is important to note that the ROKU WiFi-only devices have excellent wireless connectivity.
I hope that a DirecTV Support person reviews my post, as I think it would be beneficial to identify where this problem issue resides.

bcbsncjlj, your response is uncalled for.
I stated that I am an AT&T retiree, hence now a customer, who also pays for and uses the DirecTV Stream app. I thought that sharing my opinion like everyone else on this forum would help others to identify where the problem resides so a solution can resolve this issue. Also, I see user DIRECTVhelp providing help on this forum, so it makes common sense to provide input which I think would help DIRECTV support identify and resolve the issue.

Whatever. Being an AT&T retiree gets you nowhere in this forum.

I have the same sound issue on my Roku device. I got the same sound issue on Directv device, with the sound going up and down and static come and go, switching channel back and forward is a fix for a minute, and also notice popping sound watching some movies (HBO). Try all those suggestion you offer they don't work. Directv needs to fix there App on this issue.

The only way to fix it , is to change to another streaming service. I got directv stream only to get Bally regional sports. I have had them all, but went back to Hulu live tv, and not one sound issue . :-)

I am also having the same issue, and the responses by the customer support people, who are side-stepping the issue, is sad and pathetic.

I had the same problem on a Roku Streaming Stick (3800X). I found that going into the Roku settings to get the device to prefer Dolby Digital seems to workaround the issue. I can still hear bad samples. Not sure why the Audio Purists arent screaming about this, but at least these settings seemed to fix the Roku audio going in the dumper 🚽persistently.
The settings are
Settings/Audio/Streaming audio format to Dolby
Settings/Audio/Digital output format/Custom - Dolby
Someday maybe DirectTV Stream will fix their audio encoders 👂to stop sending junk!

The post from JoeBios01 was the "secret sauce" formula for all of my different Roku devices. Using the settings that he recommended, this was the "workaround" for my audio problems/issues. Setting the Roku configuration to get the device to prefer Dolby Digital was the work-around of the issue. For well over a month, a rarely still hear bad samples. These settings seemed to fix the Roku audio going in the dumper 🚽persistently (as JoBios01 so eloquently put it :) .
The Roku settings again are:
Settings/Audio/Streaming audio format to Dolby
Settings/Audio/Digital output format/Custom - Dolby
A shout out to JoeBios01 and a hearty "Thank You Very Much" for your solution recommendation!

Same issue here, I just signed up with AT&T DirecTV Stream on Feb 1st and it's been the issue from the beginning on my Roku Device. It's definitely an issue with the app and not the device or even my AT&T Modem/Router that came with my new Intertnet and DirecTV Stream service.
