Auto-extend/ Nascar
Why don't Nascar races auto extend? We were told sporting events would ALL do this. Racing is a sport. When you search sports, Nascar racing comes up. Any idea how many races stopped with 10 laps to go? Plenty. Then I'm faced with searching YouTube for highlights, Please do something about this.

Not all sports programming has autoextend. Always be sure to set recordings for the show after the race to ensure you catch the whole thing.

Why bother programming then? The evil cable guy does it. YouTube TV does it. Football, 3 hours, rain, snow, they run the ball more, and eat up more clock, 2 hrs 45 minutes. Your answer works...somewhat. Rain in Nascar, could be 30 minutes, could be 3 hours, or more. I'm not going to record numerous programs just in case, I usually do the following program, but not 3 hours. How about somebody just flips the switch and does the auto-extend?

If you want to keep up with your competition, you need to fix this. I am recommending YouTube TV to friends instead of DirecTV Stream for this very reason. C;mon guys, NFL isn't the only sport out there............

@kbu
check this knowledge article, hope this helps… NASCAR was already brought up several times and I’ve seen DTV community people saying they’ll pass this to their product teams
https://www.directv.com/support/stream/article/KM1227364)
Extract:
Note: Sports recordings are automatically extended where content continues to stream beyond the programmer’s scheduled time. Applies to the NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA leagues, NCAA Football and Basketball (Division I), Soccer (UEFA, FIFA) and PGA Tour Golf. Extended sports recordings contingent upon third-party recording service availability and varies by packages, channel subscriptions & billing region. Blackout restrictions apply. Data connection required. Recordings expire after 9 months. In a series recording, max 30 episodes stored with unlimited hours of cloud DVR and max 10 episodes stored with 20 hours of cloud DVR (oldest deleted first which may be in less than 9 months). Restrictions apply

Since this "feature" requires that the broadcaster insert code into the program datastream, we are totally dependent on the networks to implement it. So passing it on to the DTV Stream product team (if that ever really happens) is not going to help.
What the DTVS product team does have control over is adding the padding feature that DTV Satellite had since forever. Then people could use it now for all those sports that may never have it embedded.
And I will add that the autoextend "feature" was woefully broken for NBA and NHL playoff games broadcast in May and June. Fortunately I learned my lesson early on and added more recordings after the event.

@ferdberferd that feature was broken for few days but happened after they just released it. So far since then I haven’t seen it failing but recording the next program it’s a good way to make sure you get what you want. Related to the inserting stuff in the feed that’s more related to ads, in this case the auto extend might have to do nothing with that but more on the guide data because if a program is running long then they’ll have to update the data behind it, basically the end time - and that indeed comes from the network itself. Anyway, we’re here to help.

So by implication, if this feature requires input by the broadcaster, the broadcaster only wants the evil cable guy and YouTube TV to have the code because they both have "auto-extend" on their Nascar programing. I have no loyalty to my cable/streaming supplier as a whole, it all comes down to features and cost. Seems to me changing suppliers would be a win/win since we all know the 2 year game, change suppliers, substantially lower service costs. Maybe, just maybe, DTV will get it fixed by the time I return to their service 2 years from now at their "new" customer reduced rate. I hate the merry-go-round but it is what it is.

It has been over 9 months since you passed on the information for the appropriate team to review auto extend for auto racing. What is the outcome of their review?

Nothing! They gave litzdog a pat on the back, said they'd refer it, and a big nada. I forgot to add extra programing to the XFinity race and missed the overtime. As soon as basketball season is over I'm switching suppliers to someone who cares about their customers. Unfortunately, I watch CLE Cavaliers basketball and it's either Direct or I buy an NBA package. Two months and I'm out of here,
