best device for DirecTV stream?

So chromecast, Roku, appleTV, fireTV, or directv stream box... and like 4 variants of each of them.

I am hesitant to lock into a $120 directv box should I ever switch.

My biggest concern is responsiveness. I hate lag

I have no apple devices, so hesitant to pick up an appleTV, plus its expensive...

Thoughts and reasons for the best option?

I've tried all of them and the Dtv Stream box is the best device. No lag. Very fast. FF and rewind work better vs the apps. Also comes with a remote with numbers you can use the change channels. Also shortcut buttons to the guide, dvr list, and record. You can get a refurbished Dtv stream box from Directv for 49.99. Comes with a 1 year warranty.

they also have an installment plan on the dtv devices where you pay $5/mo for 24 mons so this might be an option when you sign up too - they have a limited 2 year warranty on the devices with the installment plan

I have to agree, I have the DirecTV Stream box, Rokus and Fire Sticks. The DTV boxes are the best, plus they can be used by voice activation. The Rokus and Fire Sticks work fine, but I like the operation of the DTV boxes, the best.

Can Kodi be sideloaded on the DTVS box?

You don't need to side load it. It is in the Google Play Store, for the DTV box.
