Black bars on all sides of screen

We have DirectTV Stream and a brand new 4K TV. When viewing the same show on antenna (OTA) and then the Direct TV Stream app (both through the smart tv’s app and my Amazon Firebox) right now the World Series on Fox) the pictures take up different amounts of the visible screen. For OTA antenna it’s nearly the entire screen. On the DTVStream apps it’s significantly less (a few inches of black bars on all four sides). Why would the DTV app not be able to use as much of the screen as possible?

I would try looking in the settings of your tv with the tv app to see if you can adjust your screen size.  I would also do the same thing with your Fire Cube to see if there are any settings that can adjust the screen size to try and eliminate the black bars around your screens.

Thank you for your response. I have tried checking display settings both on TV and firebox with no success. Any other suggestions?

I understand you have tried checking the display settings and this may be a stupid question but have you checked your display settings while in the Directv App?  I know on my tv I can access different settings while in the app for picture settings.  I am sure that your TV is a different brand than mine but they all work fairly the same.  If you still cannot adjust the picture size then I would say that you are stuck with the black bars because I see no other way to remove them other than to adjust your picture size.

Hello Tiger593. Thank you for your response. Yes, I’ve tried checking settings in the DTV app. I cannot find any settings that change the picture to fill the entire screen. What’s strange is the picture does fill the screen with no black bars when viewing TV through my OTA antenna. Is it possible my HDMI cable is inadequate? For reference my TV is a 65” Amazon Fire TV

Amazon Fire TV 65" Omni Series 4K

It may be the app for the Fire TV. The only way to know is to use an external streaming device and see if the issue goes away.

Go to tv's settings > display and sounds> calibrate tv.
