Hi Jimyleo1. Thank you for reaching out! We have two different ways to enjoy DIRECTV without a satellite dish. DIRECTV via Internet and DIRECTV STREAM.

In our service DIRECTV STREAM, we don't have 4K channels available at the moment. For more information and updates, check our site https://streamtv.directv.com/.

Regarding DIRECTV via Internet allows you to enjoy 4K picture quality on apps that offer it on your Gemini, our newest device. However, 4K TV channels are available only on DIRECTV via Satellite. You can see all the benefits of our technology here https://www.directv.com/technology/. If you have any questions, let us know. Enjoy DIRECTV in your way.

Support is a tricky word.

Most of the hardware devices that the DirecTV app runs on (including the DirecTV brand streamer) support 4K. However, we don’t know if any of the DirecTV apps on those devices support 4K, because none of the content providers (networks/channels) currently offer streams in 4K.  So even if everything in the chain does, there’s no 4K content to show.

That potentially could change in the fairly near future - they might offer the same (limited) 4K offerings they have on the satellite service (which I think is some sports and other “special” programming) and they could offer PPV movies in 4K. But so far there has been no indication that either will happen.   And that would be the limit to possible 4K on the service anytime soon - none of the networks have given any signs that they are considering offering 4K streams to the carriers.

The website says it’s coming:

“How can I find 4K content on DIRECTV STREAM?

DIRECTV STREAM automatically detects if your system can play our 4K UHD content and doesn’t offer it if your system does not support it. To see 4K UHD content, you need to be using STREAM with a 4K- compatible device and 4K-compatible TV and using the latest version of the application.

Live 4K streaming channels:
  • Ch. 104: DTV4K – 24/7 channel featuring shows, original series and documentaries
  • Ch. 105: LIVE4K – occasional live sporting events (coming soon)
  • Ch. 106: LIVE4K2 – occasional live sporting events (coming soon)”

You can find that here https://www.directv.com/support/stream/article/000093513

Yes - that is (I assume) the same 4K offerings as the satellite service.  (And it’s pretty much also what YouTube TV offers in 4K.)  But when most posters are looking for 4K from the service, they want the “regular” channels to be 4K, and that can’t happen until those channels actually offer 4K content.  No one knows when that might happen, but almost certainly not anytime soon.

Yeah I don’t care. I just want what the satellite has, all the major events in 4K on those special channels, and it appears that it’s FINALLY going to happen.
