Cannot watch Bally sports network regional broadcast

Hello, I set up my direct tv stream service here in Charlotte, NC. I of course used a Charlotte address for the sign up process. I have had no issues viewing the local Charlotte news channels since I’ve had the service. However basketball season just started, and my fiancé is a Charlotte hornets fan. Luckily direct tv stream is one of the few networks that can access the Bally sports network. However when we tried to put the Hornets game on our tv by navigating to the dedicated Bally sports network regional sports channel, we receive a message saying that the owner of this content has not made it available to users in your area message. Which is obviously confusing. Location services are on, we’ve even factory reset our boxes. Same problem. Can anyone help us?

Not confusing at all. Happens in all sports with local sporting events. They simply rather for you to attend the game then watch it locally. Just because their is a channel and the game is available on that channel does not mean you can watch it. Viewers outside on the local destination can view the channel.

Per support article:

Sporting event blackouts

Learn why a nationally televised game or local sporting event is unavailable on DIRECTV STREAM.

DETAILED INFO

Nationally televised, or local, game isn't available

Sometimes a local game or nationally televised event isn't available for viewing on DIRECTV STREAM. Learn about the restrictions and rights that cause blackouts and which channels are available in your package and area.

Game broadcast restrictions
Sports leagues and associations can restrict a sporting event from view. When a sporting event broadcasts from your area, it may be blacked out. National networks like ESPN and TNT have exclusive distribution rights to some games and restrict availability on these games.

Broadcasting rights
Sports blackouts and game availability aren't controlled by DIRECTV. The leagues, associations, and networks buy rights to broadcast certain games and control the broadcast availability. The restrictions they mandate are enforced by DIRECTV.

Packages and local channels
Your DIRECTV STREAM package impacts the sporting events you can view.  Check your channel lineup.

Depending on your market, you might find the game on one of your local or other channels.

Learn more about how to  watch regional sports networks with DIRECTV STREAM.

Good to know: You can’t use smartphones to stream NFL games. An error message will display if you try. But, you can use tablets and other devices.

So I solved the issue by calling tech support. The customer service agent said issue was that the billing address on my card on file that is charged for direct tv stream(my old billing address was in Louisiana), is what determines my eligibility for which region Bally Sports considered me in. I just had to update my billing address with my bank, then update my card info with DTV stream. Signed out of my TV provider on my Apple products, and factory reset my boxes, when I logged back in I could view the channel!

They (AT&T and subsequently DirecTV) have always used the billing address as your "home" address, but they haven't always made that clear.  Right now, it is stated in one of the "info" pages under Support, but you really have to hunt to find it - it should be stated on the "how to sign up" page or something else that would be hard to miss.
