Can't record local stations
My husband and I recently moved and had AT&T/Direct TV Stream installed in our home. We have been unable to record and programs on network TV -- NBC, Fox, CBS, ABC, Univision. All other stations appear to be working properly. We are trying to use Cloud DVR.
Any advice?

They can't change the billing zip code in the app they have to do that on the website. I don't think apps track location so that shouldn't be an issue. I am pretty sure the set top box is the only one that tracks location.

Are you using the DirecTV Stream box or a supported device?
Are you receiving a error message?
Are the local channels in the guide or are you not getting the channels to record?

We have the same problem. We get the local channels, they are in the guide but won't record from the hide not from live TV. We get a message that says. "Looks like something went wrong. We couldn't set the recording you requested. "
We have tried on our controller box as well as on several devices like our phones using the app.

Are you having the problem on every channel or on one channel?
Is it happening on a certain program or on any program?

Did this just start happening b/c there was a local channel outage yesterday where I live --I contacted live chat support and the person said it was scattered nationwide. Mine is fixed though was only out a few hours.

Having the same issues… Customer Service was zero help. I am able to set recordings for all non-local channels just fine, but anything local does not work. Super frustrating considering most of what I want to record are on locals. If there isn’t a solution in the near future, this would be cause for me to look elsewhere for TV service.

I’m having the same problem. Recording is also not available for the local channels but is available for all other channels. The error message is “Looks like something went wrong. We couldn’t set the recording you requested.” This occurs both when recording via the guide on the stream box and when using the app. Recording is not an option under the “three dots” for any local stations. This means no recording of ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox. Once I get above channel 200 into CNN, ESPN, etc. I can record all I want. No help from customer service and no explanation from directv. All locals can be watched live.

I called Tech Support yesterday and the guy I spoke to was finally very helpful. He said the problem is that your set top Box tracks your physical location While the billing address in your account has your Billing zip code in it.. When those 2 zip codes do not match up the local channels at the zip code that is not your billing zip will not allow you to record. There is a work around if you have a set top Box. Go to settings and Look for system, general, locations. You want to toggle off the locations. Once you do that, reboot the settop Box. That will put you back to your original local channels at your Billings zip. You can now go to your local channels and set up to record anything you want. I do this periodically with a list in hand of shows I want to record for the next couple of weeks. I set them all to record. Once you've done that, toggle the location setting back to on, and reboot the set top Box. Now when you go to watch the local channels at your actual location you will still not be able to record, but you will be able to watch anything that you had set up to record going forward when you were working on the set top Box with the location off. The apps that you may have on phones and devices do not allow you to toggle location off so this work around only works if you have at least one set top Box.. If you Have 2 set top boxes, you could theoretically set one with location on and 1 with location off.. Then you could watch your actual geographic locals on 1 Box and if you found something you wanted to record you could go to the other TV on the other Box and give the record command on your old local channels from home. The Only other way to pull all this off is to change the billing zip code on your account with directv stream. The only place I found where you can change it is in the app by changing the credit card I'm using for billing to a card where the billing zip is the same as my new local geographic location. That can be a problem if you don't have 2 different cards that bill to 2 different zip codes because continually changing the billing address on your credit card is a real hassle. We have just 1 box. Everything else works off Rokus or the apps.. I hope that helps and that I wasn't too unclear. If you have follow up questions, just holler.

This worked! We just moved and used a credit card with our old address to setup our account. Updated the billing address on my account and BOOM, I can now record locals! Thank you for the help!

Outside my home location? I moved to a new state and setup new TV service… I have moved several times in my life and setup TV service multiple times, and have never had this issue. I’m in my new house trying to watch and use the service I paid for. Excuse me for not thinking, oh man, I hope the zip code on my credit card matches my new home address. Honestly doesn’t make sense why that even matters? But hey, really appreciate your super helpful comment!
