Certain Channels won't load

For the past week, certain Channels won't ever load. I get channel name and show title, but it doesn't load. I can get other channels, like local ones, to load fine.

This just started a week ago and has happened on multiple tvs.  I'm using the latest gen Firestick.

I've done all the tricks... Cleared data, cache, uninstalled and reinstalled the DirecTV app. In the end I have had to unplug my firestick to do a reset to get it to work, but now the problem came up again on a TV I fixed last week.

I think there must have been a Dtv or Firestick update gone bad. I read another post describing the same thing.

Is anyone else complaining of this problem?  Is there any fix that will last longer than a week?

Thanks

I could not have described the issue any better. It’s been about a week for me as well. I was going to buy a new Firestick thinking maybe it had gone bad but I see that’s not the problem. The only way to get the channel to load is to “Restart” the Firestick from Settings, or unplug it and then plug it back in. It happens multiple times each day for me. If anyone has a fix for this please share it here.

The only thing I can think of to do is to make sure your software is up-to-date on your Firestick.  If it is then there must be a bug in the programming for the Firestick because there have been multiple complaints about this issue and the only thing you can do is to 1) wait it out and hopefully, it will get fixed soon or 2) Try using another streaming device.

You might try a factory reset on the Fire Stick. Got nothing to lose! I have 3 Fire Sticks (all different models) and all are working correctly.

I do a factory reset every time this happens. Next time, I'm not going to reset it and I'm going to call Direct tv for service. I have 8 TV's all using firestick and I'm running around the house constantly resetting them for my family. It's getting old. Maybe it's time to call Spectrum.

I checked for firestick updates again today and two of my sticks had an update available. (I had checked this last week and there weren't any updates). I updated both and have fingers crossed.

Had the same exact issue for the past two weeks on two different Samsung TVs streaming the app using Amazon FireSticks. Just off a support call with them. They had me turn each TV off using the TV remote (not the FireStick remote), wait 5 seconds and turn the TV back on. Both TVs work now and I can load all channels. I couldn’t find the remote for one of the TVs so manually turned it off at the set. All good for now. Before calling them I had tried all the usual things with no success (modem reboot, reinstall of the app). Can believe manually turning the TV off and on fixed this irritating issue.

Oh wow. I will give this a shot right  now. The firestick updates did not solve the problem. Thanks for posting. I'll let you know if the problem persists. You too, ok?

I’ve had no issues on either TV since I did what they suggested.  I hope it works for everyone else having this issue.

SEJ2018 This ended up not solving my problem. I did the tv shut off and on, relaunched DTV and all was good (yesterday). Today I had a tv playing a 200 level channel. We turned the TV off, and 10 minutes later turned it back on and that same channel that was playing when we turned it off would not load.

The only thing that has worked for me is to do a restart on the firestick (hold play and circle buttons down until firestick shuts down). Since I have to do this nearly every day on at least one of my TV's, I am still extremely disgusted over the situation.

I would definitely be calling them about this. Very irritating to be sure. I am positive it was happening to me too on 200 channels. I will keep let you know if it starts happening to me. It’s only really been 2 days.

@Kcline62 @SEJ2018

Did you guys ever get this resolved long term?  I seem to have a similar problem with a Roku rather than a Firestick.

I have a 3 Rokus.  Two work fine.  The slightly older on has a very similar problem.

All channel below 84 work fine.  Most of the 200 and 300 channels (but not all) have this issue.  Of course, there is never a problem with the shopping channels.

DTV says it is a Roku issue,

@2Woofs  No. I never found a solution. We just reset the firestick when this happens, although it rarely happens anymore. I really believe the problem was started by an update on either the Dtv or Firestick software.

@Blemek - Even though I still believe that this is a compatibility problem with the specific model of Roku and DTV, I ended up switching the Roku out to a different model and now I am OK.

It was pointless trying to get to the root problem.

My problem is somewhat similar.  My internet provider is Spectrum and I have DirecTV satellite.  The TV works fine.  The DirecTV app on our iPhones now works. But I still can't watch DirecTV on my iMac with the exception of the ESPN channels - ESPN, ESPN News, ESPNU, ESPN2, ACC Channel and SEC channel.  Called AppleCare+ but there was nothing on their end they could see was causing the problem.  I'm running the latest OS - Ventura 13.2.1.  I've been talking to DirecTV since we moved and had to switch internet providers from AT&T to Spectrum at the end of December 2022.  It took them two months to get the DirecTV app on our iPhones working.  No resolution yet for watching on my iMac.  Can anyone provide any information that might fix this problem?
