Direct Tv stream & recordings not able to stream to TV

We have DirecTV streaming but we are unable to stream our library recordings from our phone to our TV. If we have the DirecTV streaming box would it allow us to stream our library recordings to our TV to watch? Currently we are using a Chromecast to stream to the TV and it works well except it will not stream our recordings to the TV.

@Erica1

So how do expect to receive the streaming services without some sort of device or the TV's native applications? DirecTV Stream is no different than any other streaming service in that regard.

It is direct. She is ( and others have) talked about getting a DIRECTV box. Different than other streaming services. I use chromcast ( not a box) for all my other services. Doesn’t work with this streaming service. Yes, I can stream live tv, but not recording. No way to avoid commercials.  I can’t even download to my iPad to watch. Totally worthless service. I tested it. Also, even when streaming to a pad or phone, delays in starting.

You do not need a DirecTV Stream to use DirecTV Stream service. Not sure what Chromecast device you're using, but some do indeed support the DirecTV Stream App, including recording and fast forwarding commercials.

No device will allow you to (Google)cast the playback of a DirecTV Stream DVR recording from a mobile device. That is apparently due to a a limitation in the Googlecast protocol/functionality (or at least an incompatibility between what DTV Stream requires and Googlecast offers).  However, the current Google device (Chromecast with Google TV) is a more functional device, and can run Android TV apps natively (that is, it’s analogous to a Roku and can function with no phone involved). That device can run the (new) Android TV version of the DTV app, and that should have no problems playing back DVR recordings.  Again, you won’t be able to cast them to the device, but you won’t need to. And as a plus, they are currently on sale.

<rant> Google is as bad as AT&T/DTV, Apple, or (perhaps slightly less bad) Amazon when it comes to naming things. The first 2 especially tend to conflate service names, device names, and app names.  AT&T/DTV very confusingly named services. Amazon and Google confusingly name devices.  (The new-ish Google device could be named “Google TV dongle”, with “dongle” needed because Google TV is also the platform name, and the fact that it supports casting could be assumed, but some marketeer apparently thought leading with “chromecast” would be a marketing plus.  And chromecast is both a device and protocol name.)  I assume these companies pay people lots of money to come up with these stupidly confusing names.

Right now we have a main Tivo Box and 2 Tivo Mini boxes on our other 2 TV's. I like the fact of having boxes and remotes over apps and Roku remote with no numbers and having to Navigate. I like the remotes and their shortcut features.

Sounds to me that to actually use direct tv streaming to watch recorded shows on a tv, I need to buy a new smart tv with direct tv app or buy a box. And I can’t watch any recorded shows off line either. As I said before, worthless. The only reason I could see in switching to direct tv streaming was to be able to watch on any tv without all the boxes wasn’t sure it was worth loosing the off line capability, since I travel for work, but was considering the trade off. The problem is, there is only downside (including the delay when doing anything.

My husband is watching now from Roku app you don't have to buy there boxes I just prefer it cause I want the remote and it's easier. I watched a recorded show on my phone at work yesterday. And I have the app on my chromebook also. I like all the on demand stuff too.

I don't think this has been resolved. I got an error message "does not support ccast" when trying to cast shows from my library to my chromecast today. 2 years later and it is still not fixed?

It doesn't need fixed. It's a copyright issue. You cannot stream recordings to chromecast.
