Direct TV streaming through Apple TV Cannot use functions

What functions?

Have they tried deleting and reinstalling the DirecTV Stream on their Apple TV?

HI. I just checked and asked if he was having this issue with the origional apple tv remote. He says he is using a universal remote control witch may be the reason it is not behaving correctly. Since the apple tv remote is controlling it as it should i am going to assume it is an issue with the Universal remote he is using or the codes he used for his apple tv device on the universal remote control causing the issue.

He said non of the functions would work once he got inside the direct tv app. But he can control the apple tv it self.  He mentioned channel + and channel - not working from the universal remote control but i did mention to him that apple tv neither has channel up or down. The universal remote should simulate/behave like the origional apple tv remote. I also recommend using the Apple tv learning function from the apple tv to the universal remote vs using a codeset from the Universal remote database from a older apple tv that is not 4th or 5th gen. He said he would let me know if it worked or not so i will update this once he reaches out to me. Not sure when that will be hopefully soon.

Just to confirm, is the Apple TV 4th generation and above?
