Directv Stream for Sony / Android / Google TV

Where's the supported app?

Sony is a huge market to not have clear disclaimers if there is no intention to support Sony.

All I was told is that if it is Android or Google it "should work".

Directv:  What is the bottom line?

If you can't download the app, then it's not supported. Supported device list is located here

No, the Sony TV does not support the DIRECTV STREAM application. You’ll need to purchase a streaming device like a Fire Stick, Roku, Apple TV, or the DIRECTV STREAM Osprey Box.

IF the device is an Android-based streaming utility, the DIRECTV STREAM app can be downloaded online via an APK (not official method). Although, be sure you aren’t downloading a virus.

We aren’t ‘DIRECTV,’ we are customers just like you on a public forum. We have no clue what the future plans for DIRECTV STREAM are as far as application support.

For all the devices CURRENTLY supported, visit here:

Who would be responsible for the development of the Direct Stream App for Sony Bravia TVs?

There is no app. Contact a support rep at either Twitter or Facebook to voice your request. Don't expect any near future app.

Thanks, I know there is no app for the Sony.  I am wondering who does the development of new apps?  Is it Direct Stream or Sony or Roku or Apple TV or some other 3rd party.

I know some organization developed an app for my Apple TV but not for the Apple TV that runs on the Sony Bravia TV.   I have 2 very expensive Sony Bravias.  Why are they not in the plans.  If I knew the answer I could re-focus my attention to the source.  I hate to buy 2 more additional streaming boxes and lose the convenience of 1 remote that streamlines not only my streaming, but also my live TV, security camera's and more.   I'll look at Twitter/Facebook...thanks for the input!

FYI to bcbsncjlj and all:  I followed the non-hot link to Directv Stream support from my Sony Bravia and behold, the app is now there and available for download.  Go figure...

They just released the app in the last few days. Based on history, expect a lot of issues with the app.

I have  Sony tv and the stream app on it but it is so pixeled you can’t see anything. Then it will clear for a min and back to pixel

Use an external streaming device. Those apps for Smart TVs are just junk. You really want regret it.

Someone said in this thread that they recently released the directvStream app for Sony TVs.  I today just bought a new Sony Bravia TV.  I don't see DirecTVStream app.   Am I missing something (or was the person wrong who said it was released)?

I downloaded the Directv app from the google play store. I don’t believe it was called DirectvStream but it recognized the TV and behaved accordingly. I did the trial subscription and canceled it because it was clumsy to operate. Whenever I called for support, they really couldn’t help and said it would be better if I bought their box. I ended up testing Hulu and YouTubeTV…both worked better and exponentially less expensive.

Oh wait, never mind.   I performed a software update on the new TV and the DirectTV Stream app now showed up.  All is well.  Funny that I had to update manually -- as usually new equipment these days does a software update check first time out of the box.    I find DirecTV app easy to operate.   Click down on the circle on the Sony TV remote, to bring up guide/on demand, etc; click left or right to move channels up/down.   Easy.  I see no need for the box.   Picture looks great.

I have a Sony xbr-65x930c and my Direct TV Stream app has horrible pixelation.  My other streaming applications HULU, Netflix, HBOMAX, do not have any issues streaming. I have tried both wireless and network cable with no success. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

While I can understand problems with controls and things like that, pixelation seems odd.  Their own device uses Android TV, so I would assume the standalone version of the Android TV app would share the display part of the dedicated app, and I haven't heard reports of pixelation on that.
