DirecTV Stream Pixelating on Sony Smart TV

We just started DirecTV Stream service on our 65" Sony X850E Series Smart 4K UHD TV. The picture is pixelating/ghosting while on shows. Weirdly, commercials always come in crystal clear. I’ve force closed and reopened app. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled app. I’ve updated the TV software. The TV is connected to router via Ethernet cable. I have 500 mbps internet with no picture quality issues whatsoever on other apps like YouTube or Netflix.

Any idea what else may be happening??

Thanks!

I have same issue on two Sony TVs of varying age (one is many years old)…pixelated images, terrible sound and extremely slow navigation within the app. Roku stick works absolutely perfectly with both TVs for Direct Tv Streaming and all the usual streaming apps so I assume the issue is with the app in the Sony ecosystem. Seems ridiculous to have go that route to get it to work but I guess the Roku sticks are cheap enough.

What's your resolution set at? 4K? Try changing to 1080p to test.

I tried changing various settings on picture quality on TV directly as well as “streaming quality” in the DirecTv Stream app.  I tried changing from “best” to “better” and “good” with no noticeable change in pixelation.

I’m wondering if getting an external box from ATT would help instead of just using the app?

Have you checked/updated the TV OS? Some posts on Reddit say that they've updated the TV OS and after that pixelation went away @RocketDog2

Yeah I did try that. My TV did have to be updated, but it did not fix the issue.

I also ended up just going the Roku route and can confirm it’s working just fine. Too bad DIRECTV can’t get the Sony app to work properly. But, like you said, the Roku is pretty cheap
