DIRECTV STREAM Remote Troubleshooting (Streaming Device)

Having Trouble with your DIRECTV STREAM Remote? Check out the solutions below.

Resync the remote - Blue/ Purple LIghts

  1. On your remote, press Home.
  2. Select Settings > System > System Settings.
  3. Select Remote & Devices.
  4. Select Program Your Remote.
  5. Select TV or Speaker System depending on your device.
  6. Follow the prompts.

Make sure you are close enough to the DIRECTV STREAM Box and pointing towards the IR receiver on the device. The remote lights will blink blue when pairing.

Make sure the batteries are firmly in place - No Lights
Remove the battery cover, take out the batteries and place them back in. If functions are restored, you are good to go. In some instances, you may need to resync the remote.

Replace the batteries - Red Blinking Light
Over time, batteries lose their charge and a message to change the batteries normally appears and the light will blink red. Low-level battery life may cause sluggish remote commands and prevent you from using Google Assistant. Your remote may change to IR mode and in some instances, you may need to resync the remote once the batteries are replaced.

Heads Up: AT&T does not send replacement batteries.

Switch to IR

  • Some TVs may not support the Bluetooth function. That is ok, use IR is an option:
Press and hold Fast Forward (>>) and Rewind (<<) keys simultaneously.

The remote will default to IR mode when setting up.

Unpairing the remote
If you need to move your DIRECTV STREAM Box to a new TV, you have the option to unpair the remote:

  • Press and hold the Dash and Diamond keys simultaneously.

Volume button on DIRECTV STREAM remote keeps failing.  I have had to reset it 3 times in the last few weeks, and today it just won't work.  I followed all reset instructions and it worked for a while.  Voice command for volume doesn't work either.  What's up?  Back to using 2 remotes because of volume.

My DIRECTV STREAM remote was working fine with my Panasonic TV then suddenly it stopped turning the TV on and off. Still controlled the volume and the DIRECTV STREAM box. Spoke with tech support who tried all the usual reprogramming steps I had already tried to no avail. They sent a new remote but the same problem. Help! Also re Leighaop's issue. When I initially set up my five DIRECTV STREAM boxes, the Google assistant voice command worked but soon they all stopped working. I didn't care about voice command but I couldn't access other Google functions, like adding apps. Tech support recommend doing a hard reset and that fixed one box but not the other four. I finally decided to open a new Google account and entered the new email address and suddenly all of the available apps appeared.

Same issue started 2-3 days ago. RC no longer controls my Panasonic TV or Onkyo AVR. Followed all user guide instruction to no avail. I know box was recently updated, how? Because it interrupted the movie we were watching and the update took about 5-10 minutes... boot, reboot, and repeat.

My Directv was working fine and then it went off. Prompted me to run diagnostics. It has been running diagnostics for 45 minutes. How long does it take?

I too have a Panasonic TV and my direct TV streaming remote will not turn it on or off. Months ago, customer service sent me another - same issue. Customer service said there will be a software update to fix this soon. that was months ago. Did that update happen and I need to manually get and install it? or is is still a known issue?

My remote does not turn on our Samsung TV. Shut the tv off last night as normal. This morning the both blue lights on the remote flash multiple times but nothing happens. I changed the batteries, unplugged the tv, and unplugged the box - nothing

You have to pair the remote. Go into settings on your box--remote...then also set up the brand of tv

I had the same thing happen.  It was working fine last night, went to turn it on this morning and the two blue lights on the remote were blinking.  I changed the batteries, unplugged the box and plugged it back in and nothing.  Frustrating.

This remote and TV have been working fine for 2 years, why would I have to do all that?
