DIRECTV STREAM Rewind feature

I am new subscriber still in two week trial.   I have not received the digital box as of yet and currently using Amazon Firestick.   I am not allowed to rewind any live tv shows such as the news, etc.   Also if I try to record it will start only where I went to record even if I have been watching the show from the start.    Is this the normal way for DIRECTV STREAM, I tried Hulu Live which allows that and so does my current cable service?

Good morning @Jkthomas129,

Let's take a further look into this together.

When you try to rewind the content, are you receiving any specific messages, or is something else occurring? Then, currently there is not an option to record a show or movie from the beginning, it does only start recording from the point you're at.

Hello,  I do not even have an icon to allow me to rewind, all I have is the is the pause icon II or rec so I have no messages just appears that I have no ability to back up any live tv shows such as local news, etc.

I agree - I did like the feature of having channel #s but I am on a trial for Hulu Live and it allows you to rewind almost every show at least from where you began to watch and start from beginning on most shows,  seems to be much better - thank you for your information and assistance.   I made several calls to DIRECTV and no one was able to answer!

@Jkthomas129!

When you get your DIRECTV STREAM box, you will be able to pause, rewind, and fast forward Live TV while streaming on select national channels. Currently Pause Live is not available on local channels or RSNs.

At the moment, we don't have these features available through the DIRECTV STREAM App or on supported devices. Let us know if you have any other questions.

When I pause and/or just rewind what I'm watching I get the station icon and information with a message that says, "It's taking longer than expected to load your video. Your patience is most appreciated". I am out of patience.

@ATTHelp - (Mike) "Select national channels"?  Perhaps you can name one?  Using an Osprey, I can pause local channels for the same useless 2-3 minutes that I have been able to pause anything else I've tried.  If there are channels that support a real pause, I haven't encountered one yet.

And Mike and KristinA - what you seemed to respond to wasn't what the OP asked.  They wanted to rewind a live stream, without having to explicitly record or even set a pause - they want effectively an instant replay.  The DIRECTV STREAM video services with on-premise DVRs (U-Verse and DirecTV) offer this, by always recording up the an hour of the current channel.  DIRECTV STREAM that use the cloud DVR don't, so you can't do that.  As noted by other posters, this is possible to do with a cloud based service, as some competing services do.  And roughly 2 1/2 years ago, DIRECTV indicated that they were adding some level of this to DirecTV Now - but never did.  They also could have added the moral equivalent of an on-premise (mini) DVR to the Osprey just for this feature (and use the cloud for "real" recording), which not only would have given the cable and satellite refugees that appear to be the target for DIRECTV STREAM something they were used to, but would have given the Osprey another justification (and it would have cost very little).  But added functionality is not something that DIRECTV seems to feel a need to invest in for DIRECTV STREAM, even though their are pushing it as their flagship video service...

Thank you all for this information.   I will checkout the YouTube tv but you have all made my choice easy that DIRECTV STREAM is a no go!  Thanks Again.

I switched over to the service from Hulu because it offered me a few different channels that Hulu did not have. But it is an inferior product. The fact that in 2021, I can’t rewind a show is ridiculous. That is a basic function of watching television in this century. Hulu has that and so does Pluto. Very disappointing.

Yeah one of the first things I notice when coming back to DIRECTV after trying every other service over the last four years or so. YouTube TV allows for rewinding live TV on Roku and Google Chromecast with Google TV. So the programming to do this is available if DIRECTV chose to do so. If anyone can they should be with how large they are. Unfortunately with them being so big I think they lost communication with customer feedback. It's too bad because the channel offerings are rather good, though a bit overpriced.  Overall it's a doable service but it has a good amount of room for improvements. Picture and audio quality and overall functionality, and again with being overpriced more is expected.  Also years later they still say coming soon the ability to cast DVR recorded shows from your mobile device. This is a few years now. So there is a disconnect somewhere.

I have the exact same complaint. I switched from Hulu live because of the channel lineup. Using the fire stick I have no ability to rewind live broadcasts. Other streaming services offer this functionality. What’s up with that DIRECTV???

Feedback hopefully will make them improve. It's just a matter of time before the competition gets the RSN's back. Lots switched to DIRECTV STREAM for that reason.

I just switched from YouTubeTV to DIRECTV STREAM to be able to watch the Red Sox this year. I was shocked to discover that I cannot rewind shows on either Roku or Fire. I hope that DIRECTV STREAM will introduce this functionality soon before I find another service. My preference would be for YouTube to make a deal with NESN and I would be back there in a flash. But for now it looks like being irritated at my new DIRECTV STREAM until I can find another option.

I have had DIRECTV STREAM for one day.  I moved from Prism since they are leaving our area and Centurylink recommended them.  Where is the ability to pause live TV and fast forward or rewind live TV.  I too have did a trial with Youtube TV and my parents have Direct TV both these have that ability.  For the price I am paying you would think this would be a function.  I am starting to rethink my decision.  I also was getting "A commercial break in progress your programming will return shortly with the DIRECTV symbol.  I am not sure what that is and why that would occur.  It interupted my program.  Is this typical of what I can expect from DIRECTV.  It has happened twice in an hour now.

You could only rewind, pause FF, etc. on the box that is provided.  You can purchase additional boxes for $120 or $10 per mo. For 12 mos.  if you watching through app on firestick, etc. you will not be able to rewind or FF live shows.

jkthomas129: yes, that is the problem. It doesn't need to be that way and as soon as YouTubeTV gets RSNs back on I will be back there.
