Directv streaming

We started a new account with DIRECTV today. We have a TCL beyond five television. We were told we could get streaming service through our Wi-Fi without a dish. We cannot download the DIRECTV app on the television. Your representative told us that we would need to contact the manufacture of our TV, which is ridiculous, and have them put the app on the TV. The software on the TV is up-to-date. Are you able to help or is this service not available in Wilmington Vermont, a very remote area for service.

FYI  Just spoke to our TV manufacturer and the DIRECTV app is not available yet for our TV. Your representatives should’ve told us this, we already knew it from looking online and told him this but they insisted we call the manufacturer. So we spent the whole day trying to get DIRECTV streaming which we were told we could get and we are not able to. Terrible service

Hello Rcrickarby14, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

We want you to be part of our family, the best option will be setting up a new account with the DIRECTV STREAMING device. This is going to allow you to enjoy our services without having a compatible TV, as it is external.

If you're interested in this process, please let us know and we'll be happy to guide you.

You should have checked the supported devices at the DirecTV Stream website and you would see that only certain Samsung TVs have a native DirecTV Stream App. All other TVs require an external streaming device .... Roku, FireStick, DirecTV Stream box, etc. And those external devices perform much better than built-in TV Apps (witness the numerous posts here regarding issues with the Samsung DirecTV App). So you can solve your problem with a $30 Roku or FireStick. DirecTV Stream works great on my Rokus.

Thank you for replying, @Rcrickarby14.

Let us clarify that the DIRECTV STREAM device is available by 24 monthly installments of $5, or a one-time payment of $120.

Purchased devices may be returned within 14 days for a full refund and installments purchases are subject to
terms and conditions.

Let us know if you need help while placing the order.

There is a list of supported devices on the Dtv Stream website. Should have done your research before you signed up. What the rep probably meant was --yep you can use your LG tv but it has to be hooked up to an external device (Roku, Firestick, Apple Tv, Dtv Stream box) You could have also looked on your LG app store for Dtv stream first and saw it wasn't there lol.

Totally agree with Litzdog911.  DTVS works PERFECTLY FINE with Roku, and that's what I use when I'm using DTVS (doesn't work as well on a Fire, the last time I tried it, back in October).

Getting DTVS's own proprietary box for $120 is way overkill, and not necessary, in my opinion.  Yes, to be honest, it's got some nice features but the whole idea behind switching from cable TV to streaming is to save $$, no?

I would go further:  Smart TV's are a mug's game, and I wouldn't go for it.  The rheims upon rheims upon rheims of horror stories that I read about these abominations, here, on Reddit, on EVERYWHERE, are, frankly, chilling.  It's a ripoff; go for an external stick.  They're more stable, they're more reliable, and they are WAY, WAY, WAY more easy to update as the software changes and improves for the various apps.  On the other hand, based on what I've read, smart TV's have software that expires more quickly and is harder/impossible to update; not worth it.

The OP didn't say LG - they said TCL.

@Rcrickarby14 - there may have been some confusion on the rep's part.  TCL smart TVs used to only use Roku built in, and that is a DirecTV Stream supported platform (as are TVs with FireTV built-in).  However, last fall TCL added a line of TVs with Google TV (aka Android TV) as their smart platform, and that is not supported by DirecTV Stream (there is no app for it).

You may be able to sideload another app (the FireTV version) - that depends on whether sideloading is possible with that TV and whether that version of the app will actually work with the Android TV platform as it implements it.  If you are interested in trying, you should Google for more info on sideloading the DirecTV Stream (or AT&T TV) app onto Android TV.

Sorry, I meant TCL---had just read another thread about LG lol. I have an Android tv box side loaded with Directv stream that works great. Not sure if u can sideload onto a TCL. From what I have read you should be able to. If you have an Android phone the process is easy:
