DirectvStream KTLA CW Network
I live in the Los Angeles TV Market and am very interested in DirectvStream, however I cannot find local channel 5 KTLA. KTLA is the CW network and I watch many programs on this network. KTLA is also the highest rated news broadcast in the LA area. How can I get KTLA on DirectvStream? I am willing to pay extra for it to have it added. KTLA is offered on HULU Streaming, but HULU doesn't offer as many channels and content as Directvstream.
What are my options? Why isn't this popular channel in the lineup?
Thanks.

DirecTV Stream doesn't yet have the rights to deliver every local station in LA. Give it time.

Thanks for the response, but what can I do in the mean time if I decide to subscribe to the DirectvStream service? How can I receive KTLA on my smart TV?
Also, How to I send an email to the powers that be at DirectvStream in order to inform them that KTLA (the CW Network) is mandatory in the LA TV Market? What email address should I use to complain about this?
Thanks.

@jimwayda - KTLA offers apps and a web site that offers their newscasts and perhaps some other of their local programming (info here). It doesn't offer the syndicated or network shows. For the CW (network) programming, DirecTV Stream offers on-demand content (not live for subscribers who don't live in locations where they carry the local CW affiliate). CW itself offers apps that also provide on-demand (probably more content than is in the DirecTV Stream library, and new shows probably get posted there faster), and last time I checked these apps didn't require a log in.

Thanks for the information on the streaming options. Please bear with me because I am a streaming newbie and therefore I may ask some naive questions.
If I purchase a Roku or FireStick and stream KTLA, will I be able to receive all programs not just the KTLA? For example, if the CW is airing Superman and Lois, will I be able to receive it live just like someone with an antenna or cable subscription would be able to receive?
If the answer is no, then what are the limitations?
Thanks.

Hi @jimwayda.
It is possible, you will be able to watch the streaming channels available through Roku or Firestick. Keep in mind that your local channels will be offered based on your ZIP code. In the meantime, an air antenna will be a good option to watch your favorite local channels.
If further help is needed, do not hesitate to contact us.

Can you receive KTLA 5 with an off-air antenna?

I am not sure if I can watch KTLA with an off-air antenna. I am in the LA TV market, but am about 100 miles from KTLA. Does anyone know the range of TV stations when using an off-air antenna, or is there a map that shows the coverage of KTLA such that I will know if an off-air antenna will work?

100 miles is really pushing it for off-air reception. You would need a beefy outdoor antenna and relatively clear line-of-sight to their transmitter. Check out your location at rabbitears.info

There is a KTLA+ app for Roku, Firetv, and Apple tv for the news. U can also download the CW app for programs.,....it's free. There are also CW shows in the Dtv stream "on demand" section. Just go to on demand--networks---CW.

Thanks for all the input.
Will the CW app run on a new Samsung smart TV that I will purchase?
It is my understanding from the responses here that I will need two separate apps. One app for the KTLA news and another app for the CW programs that I want to watch. I believe that with these two apps, I will be able to watch news and CW programs in real-time.
An indoor off-air antenna won’t work for me because I’m 100 miles from KTLA. I not put up a roof antenna. That is so 1950’s! DirecTvStream should be willing to add KTLA to their channels. If I have to pay extra for this channel, I will pay. Just give me the option. How long will it be before the executives at DirecTvStream understand that this channel is mandatory for the LA market? (Rhetorical question, no response expected)
Unfortunately there is no way to just stream KTLA to provide the exact same programs as having an off-air antenna.
I wonder if it is possible to watch KTLA using a laptop web browser and get the exact same programming as an off-air antenna?

Thanks for the update, @jimwayda.
We recommend you to check in the website of the channel to confirm whether your devices are compatible with the app before any purchase.
We also want to let you know the programming on air might be different from the programming available online because the owner of the channels reserve the right to broadcast any programming/content via their online options.

@jimwayda CW and KTLA+ apps are not available on Samsung smart tv's. U need a roku, firestick, or apple tv. U can also stream KTLA news from the KTLA website and the CW from from the CW website.

Ok, I believe that I am beginning to understand. Please tell me if the following statement is correct:
"There is no possible way to stream KTLA channel 5 to receive the exact same broadcast that can be received with off-air antenna or cable TV subscription."
With streaming using Roku, Apple TV, or FireStick, I will need to stream the news from KTLA using an app, and stream my television programming from the CW network using another app.
The executives at DirecTvStream should do some research and they will discover that KTLA has the highest rated local news broadcast in Los Angeles. In addition, the CW network (owned by CBS and Warner Brothers) has popular unique programming and is really a major network especially to the millennial demographic.
On the positive side, DirecTvStream seems to provide the most and best channels of any streaming service and even approaches the offerings of cable TV providers such as Spectrum.

You are correct. There is no way to stream KTLA Ch5 in real-time without an off-air antenna or satellite service.
You can stream their news using the KTLA App. You can stream CW programming using the CW App (you won't be able to skip over commercials, though).
Hopefully DirecTV Stream will provide that channel someday.
