DVR recording unwanted programs

I've had an issue recently with losing DVR recordings because programs I don't need to record are recording anyway.

Certain programs that I have set to "First-Run Only" are recording re-airs of episodes I've already deleted.  Also, sporting events that I record when they first air are re-airing later on in the week, and are recording sometimes three extra times.  I haven't figured out how to stop this.  I've selected the non-sports programs that I'm having this problem with and deleted the series recording and started over, but no how many times I select "First-Run Only," it's recording the reruns as well.

We are having LOTS of problems with recordings recently too.  It is very buggy.

Shows set to record only new episodes are recording playback episodes (sports included).

Also, they've recently been featuring their update that recordings are now auto extended which is great when a sports program goes past time due to overtime play.  Except it definitely does not work.  We had two games record yesterday - neither of which recorded the full game even without them going into overtime so this feature is not working as expected.

I find it much easier to clean up my recording queue in a browser too since the app on my Samsung TV is garbage and it is very very hard to get to the delete recording option for a specific recording.  The app on Roku was better so I hope the one on Samsung catches up with features.

Also, the issue isn't a streaming issue so the link provided by help does no good, this is a software bug in the cloud recording.

Yeah.  Still happening.

I watch on my TVs on two Roku Expresses.  I also occasionally watch on my browser on my laptop, and on my iPad.  It happens on all devices.

We have the same issue, this is a DirecTV problem that for whatever reason they choose to not address, assuming it has to do with more advertising revenues than customer preferences. If you notice that when you watch a show you have marked to record as first run only, there will be a S1 E1 designation on the info tab, which means Season 1 Episode 1 or equivalent. This is used for coding and is what triggers the DVR to know it’s a new showing and will not record it again once it’s been catalogued. However, older shows or show that DirecTV does not code still get recorded because the DVR does not know how to handle it. For example, we have set to record all first run only, Diner, Drive ins and Dives episodes - yesterday it started automatically recording something called Diners, Drive ins and Dives A-Z, these are not coded and we have not asked for them to be recorded but apparently DirecTV feels they should be rammed down our throat. I do just delete what I don’t want to watch, but like the original poster, I absolutely hate having to manually review recordings and go through each show to determine if it’s something I’ve already seen before. Hopefully this will be fixed when DirecTV is a standalone company no longer tied to AT&Ts garbage algorithms.

Nothing to do with AT&T. AT&T and DirecTV are 2 separate companies. Been separated for a year.

If the program guide is not complete or just gives a generic description of the episode--it isn't Dtv Stream's fault. They get their program guide info from another company.

They are still responsible for the verification and accuracy of the content they provide regardless of who the source is. As a customer for well over 30 years I think I can honestly say that I prefer the old DirecTV before all the bells and whistles and streaming options were added on. Seems as if anymore when there is a software update, it has little to do with the quality of the service and more to do with adding new features and adding content for more advertising revenue. I get that it is what it is, but also why were actually considering dropping DirecTV all together. The only thing keeping us on board at this time is the hope that they may start to offer internet service via satellite but were also not holding our breath.

@Rokbrnc1

Don't hold your breath waiting for DirecTV to offer satellite internet services. That ship has long sailed. StarLink has total changed the landscape from fixed satellite internet (using geosynchronous satellites) to StarLink's low-earth orbiting constellation.

Oh, and changing providers won't solve the Guide Data issues. All providers get that information from third-party companies who, in turn, get that data from the networks/channels. It's really up to the networks to ensure the data they provide is timely and accurate.
