Easiest Way to Skip Commercials

Do you think DirecTV will ever create an autoskip feature to automatically skip commercials (like TiVo offers)?

What's the easiest way you've guys have found to skip commercials?  Just hit the forward button and go by 30 seconds at a time?  That seems like the only option so far.  Maybe I'm missing something.

I doubt it. Tivo has had this feature forever. I guess DirecTV doesn't want to upset advertisers.

I use the fast forward 2 or 3x just so I can stop when the program comes back on. With sports if I want to forward ahead more than 10 minutes I use 4x.

I don't think you will ever see it with DirecTV Stream or satellite as many of the local commercial inserts are ones they have sold.

I love DirecTV Stream and its DVR.  Definitely could've gotten rid of Xfinity and my TiVo to use it... However, the commercials are just too much.  OnDemand content forcing you to watch commercials, no autoskip.  I may come back to DirecTV when Xfinity stops supporting CableCARDs and I can no longer use my TiVo, but for now I much prefer the autoskip feature.

To skip commercials I use the voice function on my remote and tell it to fast forward  3 mins and then skip 30 seconds until the show that I am watching is back on.

Hello @geekdoc. We will be glad to have you back in the DIRECTV family.

At this moment DIRECTV STREAM doesn't support the skip commercial feature. However, we will take your feedback into consideration, and we will forward your suggestion to the proper department, so they can review the next steps.

Hopefully with TiVo's patents expiring soon DirecTV Stream will implement an automatic commercial skip feature soon.  I will revisit possibly getting DirecTV Stream again in the future (when Xfinity no longer supports CableCARDs or when my TiVo dies).

@geekdoc   Hey I had the very 1st original single tuner and had all up to now the Bolt. For over a year or more we've had so many problems and constantly have to try new TA and Cable Cards. Mostly it's the TA and we keep getting error messages V52 or V53 or V99 no signal on this channel. Husband thought at one point it was one of the tuners on our 6 tuner Bolt so we were out of warranty but they gave a refurb for $99 and it did the same thing so we returned for refund. Tivo blames it on Spectrum they blame it on Tivo. Plus we were told within the year they are phasing out TA and CC.

We just now did the trial for Direct TV Stream last night for 5 days. If we like I want the box and a remote. I was told we need at least 1 which I want on our main TV but I have a TV in my office that would need one also. I was told we can get restored ones for $49.99 instead of $120 for new so I'm going to look into that if we keep it after the trial. So you had it and went back to Tivo?

We have Charter/Spectrum and have no problems with internet and I have a landline would like to keep those 2 and just get rid of cable. We love not only the Skip button but when it auto skips on  it's own. My question is on all regular shows that we record on live TV we can at least FF and do the 30 second skip 3 or 4 times to skip commercials right? I don't know I just joined here and thought I read some things don't FF and I read something about 5 minute Ads so I am confused. I am trying to just skim through the stream forums.

We have a Tivo Bolt with a Lifetime and 2 older mini's doubt they will sell since Tivo probably will be gone in a year. I wish they had some kind of service with a cloud DVR and a box like their stream with the good remote and interface which I love and am so used to. If Spectrum had a 6 tuner enhanced DVR I would of stayed with them they only have 2 or 4 and we didn't like their cloud DVR interface.

Yes, you can FF through DVR recordings and "live TV" if it was paused so got ahead.  You generally can't FF through on-demand content - that's a restriction imposed by the content providers (networks) - but some on-demand allows it.

Thanks! someone above said you can use the remote and say FF 3 minutes we could do that with Tivo but most of the time it auto skipped on it's own now a days no hitting the skip button. But I am liking this stream so far I just want the box and remote if we're going to keep it. We signed up late last night. I like all the on demand content which with Tivo we didn't get alot of the spectrum on demand. I just got tired of error messages and channels not coming in due to Tuning Adapters. I've called 4 times since 10/31 and each time they say I will get one in a couple days and they still haven't sent one so we decided it's time to move on and my niece has this and I heard it's as close to cable as you can get so we decided to try it.

I do have a landline and internet also through spectrum and it's fine so I don't want to lose it and start over with new emails addresses so we will keep that unless AT&T had a deal where all 3 really cheaper than keeping those 2 on Spectrum will see.

I just canceled my subscription due to lack of autoskip commercial feature.  I'll continue using my TiVo with CableCARD with Comcast until Comcast no longer supports CableCARDs and I'm forced to switch.

Hopefully by then DirecTV will have an autoskip feature.

I wish they had auto skip too but we were having too many issues with Spectrum and Tuning Adapters. I just wish your recording layout was better. Tivo it was easier to find stuff and you could search by movies tv shows paused or stuff getting ready to expire I don't know here I feel like I have to scroll far to just to what I want to watch and ours were set by alphabetical order or you could do by date. Here if stuff records like after my soap is on which 3 or 4 things do than I just feel like I have to scroll to far or to find a Hallmark movie I recorded a couple weeks ago. I just wish you could categorize or me and my husband could have our own folders. :-)
