How to get 4k on HBO and Showtime via DirectTV app?
Can I get 4K streams via DirectTV App on Apple 4k, or do I need to use HBO and Showtime Native Apps to do that. Same issue for other broadcasts in 4K. I can't tell if when watching via DirectTV app if it is the best resolution or not. I can't seem to watch via Showtime Anytime app, as the log in for DIRECTV doesn't seem to work.
Same questions for Atmos sound too.

DIRECTV doesn’t offer those channels live in 4K. Are you referring to on-demand content or something else? If so, I don’t think the app itself supports 4K.

I am referring to live or recorded "4k" content on HBO, etc. I have super hi-res Dolby Vision TVs, and want to watch using best resolution. If DirectTV App doesn't offer this in 4K, then I should watch via the native HBO/Showtime, etc. apps. In which case, not sure why I wouldn't just buy these services directly via HBO/Showtime, etc. rather than through DirectTV app.
Same issue for network programing as well, especially sports. I want the best, highest res experience, and fear that Directv doesn't offer this experience, when it is clearly available.
Seems like a HUGE fail for Directv? Please advise.

To make matters worse, Directv is charging me $200 for early cancellation of my satalite, when I have been with Directv for decades and don't have a long term contract, and I moved to streaming.
Also, I am trying to log into Showtime Anytime via Directv but getting errors. I can log into HBO/Max app, without issues.
Seems that I will be moving to Hulu or Youtube after all.

Many of the devices upconvert the content from different apps to 4K. But that is done by the device you are using, not from the content provider. I use a Roku Ultra and Firestick 4k Max and they both upconvert, on my 4K TVs. The DirecTV Stream box can also upconvert the signal to 4K, but again it is upconverted not sent from the network as 4K.

Lou_do, thanks. Can someone please tell me how I can get the very best resolution on my TVs via Directv, HBOMax, Showtime, etc.? Seems that this should be something people know about and not so much confusion. I bought the best TV available and want to watch using the best resolution. Seems that there must be a clear answer here, not just up convert. Have you watched true Dolby Vision or HDR 4K?
Frankly, I'm not sure if I have other than via Netflix, Amazon TV, and Apple TV programing. But since I watch HBO/Showtime, Sports a lot and all of those are in 4K, why wouldn't I be able to watch those in 4k one way or another? So confusing!
There is clearly a bug with the Showtime anytime app.
At this point, seems that I would be better off with Hulu or another service, or just use DirectTV for network channels, not premium channels, buying those channels directly through those services.

Use their apps to get 4k. HBO max, Showtime, etc. What device are you using? If you have a Dtv Stream box--you also have to make sure 4k resolution and HDR are enabled in settings--system--display

Unfortunately, there is something going on with the Showtime app not recognizing my DIRECTV credentials.

I am trying to use the showtime anytime app but unfortunately it requires activation and when I go to Activayte on the web it requires that I sign into DIRECTV and when I do so if ounces saying it did not recognize my user name, even though I am signed in. It is crazy.

Make sure to choose Dtv Stream as the provider--not Directv. Directv Stream isn't an option on the main page of choices--you have to click "see all providers" then search Directv Stream

Wow. Thanks Ludwick577. That's crazy how hard that was to find. So, now that I can get 4K on Showtime/HBO via their apps, the only issue now remains how do I get 4K on network tv for sports?

@bcbsncjlj awesome. I prefer to stick with Directv if possible, but if Youtube is better on resolution, perhaps I need to go there. I am SO upset with DirectTV now. After 27 years on DirectTV, they are charging me $200 to cancel and move to cloud, even though I have NO contract after 27 years. I have been talking to customer support for hours but no resolution

@scottceo911 You must still be under contract, or they should not be a charge. Got to be more to it if you are not under a contract.

They claim I did an upgrade in equipment but they never sent me the upgraded equipment. Not sure why they wouldn't just waive this.

I can't see where they changed my contract. Perhaps I should just forget it, but matter of principal here
