How to stop automatic changing to Spanish while watching HBO channels

While watching movies on HBO channels, Directv Stream app on Samsung tv freezes, and comes back on after a few seconds but language is changed to Spanish. We have good Wi-Fi strength at tv and no other problems with any other streaming app. Only DTV Stream has this problem. We have to manually go into the “I” setting and switch language back to Default (English). Have deleted and reinstalled app to no avail. This has been happening for several weeks.

I have a Samsung tv and when I experience glitches with apps I read on their website to reset the tv. U can do that by unplugging it from your power outlet for like 45 seconds and then plug it back in.

I’ve reset the tv several times before removing and reinstalling the app. No change. IMHO the app has the problem and is unstable. There are several other problems that I haven’t detailed here. The “AT&T TV Now” app was having problems earlier this year just before switching to DirecTv Stream but not as many or as often. If I’d had problems with other streaming apps on the tv I’d be looking at the tv. But no other app that I use has **any** problems. Only Directv Stream. That’s why I’m reaching out here. The normal troubleshooting procedures have not fixed the problems.

The other problems include frequent freezing, screen going black, the little circular rotating icon in the middle, then after a few seconds, the picture comes back on. This happens on both Samsung TVs in my house that have the Directv Stream app. But only the HBO channels have the involuntary language switching problem. Interestingly, the HBO Max app has NO problems, very stable. Both TVs have ZERO problems on all other streaming apps. We have a strong Wi-Fi signal in our house and have no other problems with devices anywhere in the house. So the buffering problem with Directv Stream on the Samsung TVs is limited to that app alone. And I think some of the problem was inherited from the “ATT TV Now” app code.

I just tested my Samsung Dtv stream app and other than being a bit slow it works fine. Checked HBO with captions and no issue. What year is your Samsung?

The primary Samsung TV is a 2020 model, QN55Q90TAF. Purchased one year ago this month.  The second Samsung is a 32" flatscreen (model # unk) and is at least 5 years old, possibly older. That has the DirecTV Stream app installed in a 4th Generation Apple TV box connected to the TV. But that DTV Stream app on the Apple TV also experiences freezing/blackout (buffering?) issues too.  Just doesn't do the change of language to Spanish when it unfreezes.

I should add that my broadband internet service is approx. 750-800Mbs via Comcast.  Wi-fi is distributed via a 3-node Linksys mesh network. Typical speed as tested at the primary Samsung TV is 300Mbs and at the secondary TV (with the Apple TV box) is 200Mbs. I have tried resetting the Wi-fi and reconnecting the TV afterwards but that did not resolve or change the DTV app problems.

Does your Linksys have firewall or port forwarding settings you need to change? Is there anyway you can directly connect your 2020 samsung tv to an ethernet cable from your comcast cable modem (with no router in between) and test the samsung tv's app that way. Just to rule out it's not your Linksys causing issues with the Dtv Stream app.

Yes it would be possible to use a ~35 ft. CAT6 cable to direct connect to my router. However the cable would have to be run up to the suspended ceiling and over and down to the router, and I’m currently unable to do all that myself.  I would also observe that my mesh network does not interfere with any other streaming app (Hulu, Amazon Prime, Pluto, HBO Max, Samsung TV, Disney, and several others either on the smart TV sets or apps installed on my Apple TV.  I’m not being unreasonable when I maintain that Directv’s app should not have special connection requirements to work as reliably as all the other video streaming apps.

The one possibility I haven’t explored (wouldn’t know how) is if my ISP, Comcast, is deliberately screwing with my Directv Stream signal to discourage me from using it and decide to return to paying obscene monthly charges for Xfinity cable tv.  In the current corrupt corporate culture in this nation I wouldn’t discount that possibility.

I was only trying to help you troubleshoot as I have never seen this issue described 1 time in this forum. If you can't rule out one piece of your equipment then it's just a guessing game.

It's funny how you are willing to spend all this cash on your setup but then cheap out when it comes to your Dtv Stream service. Get a stream box.  (Also, nice conspiracy theory about your Xfinity internet. Wow)

I think his point is that it's happening regardless of stream box. Happening to me too on a 2021 Samsung smart TV. Connected wirelessly via Verizon fios

I tried my Samsung RU7100 Dtv Stream app and there are no issues with closed captioning or audio settings.

Comcast was under fire years ago for throttling the Internet speeds of select customers. There was a (Edited per community guidelines) and it resulted in their having to stop the practice. I’m not saying that’s definitely happening here; only that it’s possible.

Regarding my “cheaping out” on equipment… I’m retired and on a fixed income budget that’s growing increasingly tighter because of the ridiculously high inflation rate of basics- food, energy and insurance. . Monthly costs for xfinity cable tv are 250% of what I’m paying combined for a few streaming apps. Directv Stream is the result of AT&T having sold their streaming TV app. I receive that app at a significant discount because I use ATT for cellular service. And it includes HBO Max at no additional cost. It’s a decent price that is not easy to match from other stream TV providers. Were that discount removed I would have to stop using both of those apps.

As far as running Ethernet cable to test if the wifi is the issue, I’m in a wheelchair and cannot get up on a ladder. It’ll cost me $150 + $70 per half hour for a service call. I’m on this forum seeking information that might help me avoid that expense. Thanks.
