How to stop automatic changing to Spanish while watching HBO channels

While watching movies on HBO channels, Directv Stream app on Samsung tv freezes, and comes back on after a few seconds but language is changed to Spanish. We have good Wi-Fi strength at tv and no other problems with any other streaming app. Only DTV Stream has this problem. We have to manually go into the “I” setting and switch language back to Default (English). Have deleted and reinstalled app to no avail. This has been happening for several weeks.

I've had a 4k Samsung TV for over 2 years now and it shocks me people still use it as their only access to apps. Samsung tv's have very little memory/storage and the big apps always run clunky/glitchy.

One of my Samsungs is from 2017 and runs Apps fine. However, there are Apps that are bloated that give any system problems.

I use solid-state USB2 or 3 Thumb Drives to install apps on.

I might mention that being a DTV customer, you can install separate channel apps that you regularly use for a workaround.

Had same problem.  If using Samsung TV, while watching TV hit the center button, go to the little comment looking button/box on bottom right.  Change audio selection to DEFAULT (instead of Alternate).  Worked for us so far.

Not even 24hrs after contacting Tech at Direct TV and uninstalling and reinstalling, today I had to go through the whole process again. I watched tv this morning, turned it off and was gone for three hours. Coming home to watch football I got the dreaded "Hmmmm...it's taking longer for your video to load. Please be patient" and then the even worse, "Oops, somethings gone wrong. Please try again later." 

DIRECT TV STREAMING is AWFUL. THEIR STREAMING PRODUCT IS A MAJOR MALFUNCTION. AND NO ONE AT ATT CARES.

We’re having this same issue as well.  Continues to black out and come back in Spanish. @DIRECTVhelp  please do something!

Q70 82” tv.    Watching football or HBO;  screen blacks out w the circle and comes back in Spanish….  Ugh

Only way to fix seems to be to restart tv….

any way to just change a setting back?

Benclandis - see earlier comment by Tryitalltwice upthread. It’s a temporary fix because the bug will cause the language to change again next time the blackout / buffering occurs.

I spoke to Directv, they said they’ve been aware of the situation since about the 20th of this month. They have no ETA. But you can be sure they are signing up new customers nonstop.

If they publicly acknowledge that their app is malfunctioning then that might obligate them to compen$ate their affected customers in $ome manner. Hence were hear crickets from them on any public media platform or even in their direct customer communications. Or we are told it's the TV manufacturers fault.

I understand that different brands of televisions are using different operating systems in their "smart" platforms, and each TV OS may require some different code in content providers' streaming apps.

Apparently the Smart TV technology today seems to be about where computers were in 1975 - no industry standardization of OS and different manufacturers are trying to maintain market control via proprietary systems... creating a problem for consumers (and content / app providers).

If I am wrong here then I'm sure someone with links to more accurate information will respond.

I’m having the same issues. Constant black screen then when it comes back on who knows what’s gonna happen. Sometimes it’s fine, sometimes it starts descriptive narration. On HBO/Epix it will switch randomly to Spanish . Same issues as everyone else. Samsung TV bad app. In fact is just happened as I’m typing this. Went black and now I have descriptive narration.

The only channel I had a descriptive narration on was FX. However, the blackouts and freezups are painful to say the least.

@morrowmd55  I had this issue at one point. I had to force quit the app which was a bit difficult to figure out. I found instructions online and that solved issue. It happened one more time a few days after but never again. I think I then upgraded my wifi from 200 or 400 mb to 1 GB for other reasons and that may have helped solve the repeating issue.

I've been experiencing the same problem as well I have a 2021 Samsung 8, Frame & Terrace. It's doing it all 3. It started in early November when they had the new release of the app. I've also tried installing and reinstalling the app. Restarting the TVs as well as the router. I have very good bandwidth 114 Mbps with a mesh network. Also have AT&T fiber. I'm experiencing the issue with more channels than just HBO affiliated channels. It will stop and change to Spanish when I'm watching a football game on Fox. So annoying...

There is a Samsung Dtv Stream app update available that fixes the issues.
