How to stop automatic changing to Spanish while watching HBO channels
While watching movies on HBO channels, Directv Stream app on Samsung tv freezes, and comes back on after a few seconds but language is changed to Spanish. We have good Wi-Fi strength at tv and no other problems with any other streaming app. Only DTV Stream has this problem. We have to manually go into the “I” setting and switch language back to Default (English). Have deleted and reinstalled app to no avail. This has been happening for several weeks.

I updated my Samsung app (even though I use a Dtv stream box) and went to HBO with no issues. No black screens either.

I believe I already had the latest update but went and deleted and re-installed the DirecTV Stream app on the Samsung QN55Q90T. It is version 3.23.29406, dated 11/4/2021. Upon opening an HBO movie channel in DTV Stream, the language was set to "alternative" (Spanish) and the video was low-res. When I changed the language to default, the option for English closed captioning was missing. After a few minutes and two screen freezes, the movie came on in high res video and the CC option for English was visible so I selected that. After one more long freeze that included a blackout, the picture and sound came back on with no change in language - still english. After that I watched for about 30 minutes without any further freezes. I turned off the set and came back to the PC to submit this report. I will note any more freezing and language switching. I cannot yet confirm that this release has resolved the existing issues.

Whenever you start Dtv Stream or turn to a channel on the Samsung app a lot of times the pic is a bit blurry at first but clears up in like 10 seconds. I haven't noticed any of the glitches you mention since I updated the app last night.

Bring up the apps page on your Samsung tv --click on the home button on the remote move over to the left and choose apps. Scroll down to "downloaded apps" and there should be a circle on the dtv stream app b/c it needs updated. Just click onto the app and it will ask to update. New version is 3.23.29406. U can check which version you have by clicking the down button the remote---scroll over to the gear icon and then go to "about"

The version 3.23.29406 is dated November 4th 2021. It is the version i have. I still get the same issue of pauses, sound drops off with picture still there, and switching to languages. or have a strange voice narrative of the scene. The app is the issue for sure. I have tried so many different things and nothing works. This app is really bad imho. Thinking of switching. have had since was ATT TV Now. I do not remember any issues with it.

The app is not the issue. All of those problems u are talking about were resolved for me with the app update.

OK I have watched DirecTV Stream for about 6 hours (not continuously) since updating the DTV Stream app on the Samsung QN55Q90T. The update did NOT resolve the frequent freezing, and occasional total blackouts. I have not yet had the language switch to Spanish during this first period of viewing. Nothing else has change in my home wi-fi environment. When I hold my iPhone next to the TV, the Wi-Fi signal is showing full strength (3 curved arcs) and multiple Speed Test results were in the 250 to 350+ mbs range. Again, NO other streaming apps on my TV have a single issue.

Ludwick577 glad the update helped you but don't hold your breath to long. The app is the issue. I have been using the same version as you since Nov 4th. Shortly after that update all these issues started. I have been a customer with Directtv Now from day 1. I have experienced no local channels on fire TV app to channels blackouts. I will admit this is by far the worst experience with with DirectTv Stream.
Maryanne you are correct. When the service was ATT TV Now there were zero issues across all platforms. Every time the service has the name Direct TV (Now or Stream) there are issues. Again from my past experience it will take them around a year to resolve the issues.
Long story short if you have a samsung tv and use the app made for the tv you'll have issues of blackouts narration and Spanish language. You can take the same TV and put a amazon firestick in the hmdi port and run the app from the firestick and there will not be a single issue. I even went one more step and downloaded the app on an apple tv. Again everything worked great.

Oh I forgot I dealt with the past problems because the service was only 35 dollars for the go big package which that price was supposed to be for life as long as you did not make any changes or disconnections of service. Well they have raised the price yearly and now paying 70 dollars for the service which makes one rethink about putting up with this poor service. Please fix the app!

Way - Yes my DTV streaming app monthly cost (through my AT&T account) has tripled over 2 years. If it goes up much more then it loses its competitive value, despite including the HBO Max app and access at no add'l cost. Fortunately that HBO app has zero problems. If DTV could fix this Samsung-mounted app they'd have a great product at a competitive price (especially because one wouldn't have to purchase additional hardware like a Fire stick or Apple tv)

I don't use the Samsung app I have it installed as a backup plan. But I tested it all day b/c u guys said u still had issues and I didn't see them anymore. I have a directv stream box. Do you have your Samsung Tv hooked up via ethernet or are you using wifi? I have an ethernet cable connected to mine.

I have the Samsung tv connected with a ethernet cable. It does not matter if it's directly connected or uses wifi. The issues follow.
I did use the Amazon fire TV with wifi and did not have any issues. The Apple TV was a direct ethernet cable connection without any issues. These different devices were tested on the same Samsung tv.
When you launch the app in the Samsung tv then the issued come back. This really defeats the purpose of buying the Samsung smart tv. I would also like to add that I do have a tlc roku tv with the app installed connected by wifi in a different room. The result zero issues. Conclusion there is an issue with the app made for Samsung smart tv's.

Thank you for confirming that, Dway. I was very reticent to have to hire someone to run a ~35 ft ethernet cable from my tv up and over to the router in the next room (it's only about 17 ft air distance), when **ALL* other apps on the Samsung are working without any glitches. The predecessor to the DirecTV Stream app was the "AT&T TV Now" app and that was working just fine up until the app was changed a month ago.
