How to work with dynamic IP addresses

Trying to figure this out before we sign up. Senario: my mother has an internet service that only has dynamic IP addresses and the "system" decides she is out of home because the address has changed more than 4x in the year. She can still watch both of her TVs without a problem. If my father goes to their weekend home while she stays at their regular home, will he be able to watch Directv Stream too? Will he be another out of home user with 2 TVs and one other allowed or will he be unable to watch anything?

Simple answer: You are limited to 3 streams when you are out of your home network. Of the 3 streams, only 2 can be with streaming devices and the 3rd can be a mobile device. Don't forget that you can use anywhere apps to view content also if you are limited to streams.

Thanks for your insight, @ljbarney. Customers can enjoy up to 3 streams at the same time on a mobile or streaming device away from their in-home network. Only 2-on-the-go streams can be on compatible devices connected to a TV (e.g. traveling with a Roku). "Don't forget that you can use anywhere apps to view content also if you are limited to streams."

Does this mean that if my father has an internet capable TV at their weekend home that he could watch TV that way using a DirecTV stream app? Again this is if their main home with 2 TVs has been bumped to an away home because of constant ip address changes from the Internet company.

Anywhere apps are apps for networks like AMC, CNN, Disney, etc. Just download the app and login with your streaming service credentials. Most all TV stations have apps that you can download and watch local news.

Here is the list of supported anywhere apps that are supported with DirecTV Stream.

Okay, so it looks like the Internet ip address issues will prevent them from having TV service at their weekend home. That's a problem that should be fixed by DirecTV stream. If you are physically in your home you shouldn't be considered as away from home.

Thank you for the list of anywhere apps. Old guys have a hard time managing that kind of viewing.

You may be in your home, but your internet address is not defined to your home. That is not a DirecTV Stream problem but your ISP problem. If DirecTV Stream could trust subscribers on location, then it could be resolved. But unfortunately, they and other streaming service can't trust the subscriber.

Thanks for the assist, @bcbsncjlj. Yes, definitely. Upon setting up, the main home will be tagged as the home location wherein you can have unlimited in-home streaming. Nothing to worry about dynamic IPs as we have solutions for that. Home locations can be changed 4 times within a year, but we can add more if the need arises. Or, you can contact your ISP and request to make your IP address static. Shirley, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Thanks Shirley, I haven't read that on the various boards that I've visited while researching this issue. So to make sure I understand, if their home location has more than 4 ip resets (the Internet provider doesn't allow residential static ips) the DirecTV Stream will still recognize their home as the home location. Then my father can go up on weekends to fish at their vacation cabin and he can still watch TV while she is at their home location watching TV?

Sorry for the detailed questions, but I don't want to arrange this for them and then have it not work.

Absolutely. There might be a time when you face an issue due to your dynamic IP address, but rest assured we are here to help. Just ensure that your devices are DIRECTV app compatible.
