I like Google Assistant and use it for some things, but it interrupts my browsing when using my remote. Can I change its behavior?
I like Google Assistant and use it for some things, like finding a specific show that airs in the future that I want to set up to record. But when I am browsing the guide and seeing what shows are playing at that moment, after maybe 30 seconds, Google Assistant interrupts my browsing.....stops it.....and tries to get me to use Google Assistant for my browsing, or whatever other task I might be doing. It's driving me nuts. I don't want to uninstall it because I do like using it for some things. Is there any way to control this behavior and get it to stop butting into my business unasked?

Have you tried restarting the box?

I just did a hard reset....I'm going to see if that solves the problem. Thanks.

Has this been happening since you received your streaming box or is this behavior something new that it just started doing?

It has been happening since I received my streaming box. I have only had the service for a week, so maybe this is stuff that will go away. "But it's stuff like suddenly it will promote an upcoming show and that blurb will take up the bottom 10% of my screen and really interrupt the show I'm viewing......very irritating.

You can turn off google asst in the settings. Or---turn it off and then if you turn it back on you can go thru it's configuration and choose stuff you dont want.

I do want to use Google Assistant, but just don't want the unrequested "help". I did set it up to not "recommend" or promote. The main thing it does is when I'm using the guide, it will suddenly appear, unsolicited, and stop my scrolling and want me to use Google Assistant to select the show I want to start watching and I have to sit there for 15 seconds waiting for Google Assistant to go back in its cave and give me back control of the Guide. . Well, I don't know what I want to watch....that's why I'm browsing. I'm curious if you ever have had this problem? Maybe it does this with new users and eventually goes away. Now.....I am using the DirecTV Stream set-top boxes....not a Roku or smart features of my TV.

You said you are using Dtv Stream "boxes" --You have more than 1 box? If so, does this issue happen on every box? The remote/box are Bluetooth. Could be another remote is activating the google asst.

Yes. I have 3 TVs and 3 of the DirecTV Stream boxes. I don't want to access the DirecTV Stream service directly through my TV interfaces and I don't want to use a Roku box to access DirecTV Stream. I wanted a more fully featured remote....more similar to a conventional cable TV remote, So I bought their boxes and this problem happens with all of them. Each of the boxes and their Google Assistant can have its own configuration, so you could have a different configuration on each of the 3 boxes. But, I have configured all 3 of mine identically.

How far apart are the boxes and remotes? If someone is using another remote in a different room close by---and they press the google asst voice search button--it would activate google asst on another box. The remotes/boxes are Bluetooth. Bluetooth remotes have long range.

I don't know if this will help at all but it is worth a try. Unpair your remote control from the Directv stream box by pressing and holding the (-) dash and (app) buttons at the same time until the remote blinks 2x's replace the batteries in the remote with fresh batteries if they are the ones that came with the remote. Then press the little red button on the side of your Directv Stream box for 15-20 seconds or until your box restarts. Then after your box restarts press the fast forward and rewind buttons at the same time to repair your remote to your box. If this fixes this issue on one of your boxes then do it to all your streaming boxes. Please let us know if it works or not.
