Inadequate Configurability of Gemini user interface & remote (for the product design team)

I've been using DirectTV streaming over Gemini for a couple weeks now and here are some thoughts about the user interface & the remote, along with suggested fixes, that I've encountered.

  • The Gemini Air remote has black buttons on a black cover--difficult to see in a darkened room while watching TV. While the buttons do backlight once one is pressed, it's a pain to try to find a button to press to activate the backlight without inadvertently invoking some function on the remote. A greater contrast between button and the remote's cover would aid in this.
  • The remote's backlight persists for about 4 seconds--this often isn't long enough. If not configurable, it should be at least doubled.
  • The location of the Mute button just below the volume control toggle is well thought out!
  • The OK button should be higher to aid finding it by touch. As is, it is too easy for one's finger to slip over to one of the arrow keys when intending to press OK.
  • The channel (aka Page) toggle works exactly as one expects on the Guide.
  • The channel (aka Page) toggle works the same as the up/down single-step keys on the List of Current/Upcoming programs. It should work the same as it does on the Guide.
  • Single-stepping through the list of current/upcoming programs is jarring and takes excessive time. Instead of zipping through the list to find the desired title, the traverse stops at each entry, enlarges it, then goes to the next, enlarges it, then goes to the next, enlarges it, etc. An entry should be enlarged only when stepping through the list halts.
  • The inability to manually extend recordings is well documented in numerous other posts.
