The particular device (Roku, AppleTV, etc.) doesn't really matter. DIRECTV's suggestion may be found here:, from which I've reproduced the salient information below:
Internet download speed can affect your viewing experience. We suggest these internet download speeds for DIRECTV STREAM:
Home Wi-Fi® or wired connection: Speeds of 8Mbps per stream or more deliver an optimal viewing. So, if you’re watching DIRECTV STREAM on 10 devices at home, we recommend a minimum speed of 80Mbps. If you’re using AT&T Internet, we recommend the Internet 100 plan or higher for watching on up to 10 streams.
Mobile data: 150Kbps to 2.5Mbps are ideal speeds for standard-definition streaming. 2.5 to 7.5Mbps are best for high-definition quality up to 1080p.
...
Good to know: You may require higher speeds if you watch several streams and use third-party apps, surf the internet, or stream in 4K at the same time.
