Internet usage
How much does DIRECTV stream impact my internet usage? I used to use 250-300 Gb of internet. Since getting DIRECTV streaming it has skyrocketed in Gb. I was told that streaming would not be impacted when using their streaming box.

DirecTV Stream is an internet based service. Of course, it uses data. Streaming is very data intensive. How much depends on how you use it.

@Mag52
As a heavy user, my data usage has been averaging 2TB a month. Anyone using this service should up their internet to unlimited data. Those types of plans have come down enough to make this service viable.

Your amount seems very high. I have 3 TVs at home and 2 at camp. Plus loads of Internet devices and monitors, and only average about 350 GB per month.
Make sure your TV devices are shut off or in standby when you are not viewing or recording programs. I was using a lot more before making sure my devices were shut off or in standby when not in use.

I use around 50gb a day with Dtv Stream. That is with the service on for 16 hours a day.

At 50GB a day, isn't that about 1.5TB a month?

@chasf00 yes, 50GB per day times 30 days in a month gives you 1500GB or 1.5TB

Not much different than my 2TB a month, eh? At Best resolution DTVS is a data hog.

I am currently also trying to manage my monthly data usage. My Cox plan includes 1.25TB/month. Since I'm now exclusively streaming on 2 Fire Sticks, I went from 578GB/month to 1.2TB per month. This also includes data use from Netflix and Prime.
I'll probably have to ask both DTVS and Cox some questions about usage. My initial question is when I'm in pause mode, and the DTVS "screensaver" kicks in with its' slide show, does that continue to use significant data? My guess is no.
I'll keep an eye on this thread for others comments, suggestions and observations.

Not a significant amount, but if the device is active it's always polling for things like updates, etc. Best to just pull the power if data is a concern. Just always make sure you exit any app.

@ppine
Recommend up internet data plan to unlimited, if cost effective. For me it was.
