Is it possible to add sports recording to the streaming service?
The Satellite system had on option when recording a live sports program where you could add on a certain length of time in case the game ran over. Surely, that option can be added to the streaming service, can it not?

It's been asked for several times. It's not been added.
I've heard that at least some sports events on some channels automatically extend when necessary to get the whole event. Which events on what channels, that I've not heard, though, so it may just be an urban legend.

Thanks. Not impressive, it's a function I used weekly before.

I use it on U-verse TV on every event I record. My wife just records the next program following any program she thinks is going to run late due to sporting overruns, which is all you can do on DIRECTV stream.

There's a workaround. Set up a recording for the show that's on after the sports event.

Yes, clearly one can do that but it can be rather clunky if you have to extend the recording over an hour and the station has half hour programs. This happens occasionally in golf. Besides I'm surprised that the streaming recording service is less sophisticated than the old satellite system.
The recording software is quite buggy. I often have to delete the same recording twice and, occasionally, three times. And sometimes the fast forward works and sometimes it doesn't.

I agree that it's clunky. Hopefully they'll add the time extension feature in a future update.
I have not experienced any issues deleting recordings or fast forwarding. What streaming device are you using?

Apple TV and the app on an iphone.
If I can't fast forward on the Apple TV, then I'll just sent it to the tv via Airplay from my iphone, then it'll fast forward. The latter has always worked.
As for deleting, numerous times I've deleted a program then later in the day discovered it's still there. I'll try to pay more attention to when exactly that happens (e.g. delete from app then it's still on apple tv, etc.).

@DIRECTVhelp - Hey reps, just stop it. Unless you get paid to stop threads by taking things private, or you are embarrassed to admit that you have absolutely no clue on any technical issue, stop telling users to take non-account related issues private.
And Mayra - things show up in the "playlist" as soon as they start recording - so you can watch while they are still recording. Learn the product you are allegedly supporting.
To all - the DirecTV Stream/AT&T TV/DirecTV Now DVR capability is pretty primitive in terms of features, and has not been significantly enhanced since it was first added to the service 4 years ago. Some of the things people are asking for here (like manually extending recording time) have been requested since it came out, with no joy. It doesn't seem that some of the things that have been requested should be that hard to add. (The manual time extension seems pretty trivial. Having not seen the code, I'd think I could add it myself - to the back-end, not all the various apps - in a few days work.) Some of the requests would obviously be more complex to add. But virtually no enahcements (to any of the features) happened under AT&T. There have been signs of a few enhancements (though not to the DVR) since DirecTV took over - perhaps they actually believe that since it is their only business, they need to invest in improving it. We can hope.
With respect to sporting events automatically extending: it's an actual feature, first seen about 2 1/2 years ago or so, but it's limited. It only applies to some sports on some channels. It was originally limited to (some?) RSNs, and that may still be the case. It is limited to some sports, and quite possibly only some games of those sports. (I first encountered it with MLB games on Fox Sports RSNs.) The feature apparently depends on an in-band signal provided by the provider. I don't know the details, but a user reported that it was related to games that might appear on other (national?) networks, and was used as a signal for those other networks. That implies that the range of things covered by this would be limited, and that does appear to be the case. The biggest problem with the feature is that there is no indication for any particular game whether the feature applies or not, and they've never said anything definite about, so you can't really depend on it.
With respect to deleting things - they provide the ability to "undelete" a deleted item for some period of time, and it seems that some types of moving around (from screen to screen) in the UI can confuse it, causing things to get undeleted, or appear to be undeleted. Again, they've never said anything specific about undelete and its operation, so it's hard to say if any of this is intentional or just another bug.

I don't see any private message box but no matter.
The fast forward issue is pretty serious. On the weekend, the FF stopped working after a couple of hours (golf is a long sport) on Saturday. On Sunday, the FF worked in the morning but when I went back to the same recording later in the after it no longer worked.
When I switched over from satellite it never occurred to me that the recording system would be inferior to the old satellite system. And from other comments, it seems it has been inferior for a while. Not an encouraging sign.
