Locals & Regional Sports channels missing from guide often

I am using DirecTv Stream with 3 tvs (2 4K Firestick, 1 Roku). 2 Visio, 1 JVC tvs. For over a year now I often find that the local channels and my Arizona Regional Sports (Bally) channels are missing from the guide. If missing one day, they may be in the guide the next day, or maybe not. They only re-appear overnight, not during the same day. If they are not present it is the same on all my devices and on my PC. If one is missing they all are missing.

When the locals are not in the guide though, if I have setup a local program to be recorded, they do record, and I can watch them even when the channel is not in the guide. Weird. Lately though a new problem has come up whereby when I try to watch a local channel recorded program, I often get a "Bookmark" bar instead of the program I want to watch. When I click on it, it tells me there was a problem...try again. If I restart my Firestick and come back, I can usually watch the program okay. But it keeps re-happening.

I have spent time with Support on a number of occasions, but they cannot solve the problem permanently. They can solve it for a day or two by them doing an "account re-sync" and having me uninstall and reinstall the DirecTv Stream app.

It has supposedly been escalated as a problem and I was told someone will be contacting me...but no one has contacted me.

I'm ready to jump ship, but I hate to because when things worked right this service is perfect for me.

Are you having any similar problems?  Any permanent fixes?

When the problem occurs, can you check on a mobile device to see if the missing channels show up there?  (It might be useful to check with the phone connected by both WiFi and by cell data.)

They  are missing on my Windows 10 PC using my home wi-fi. I will follow-up later regarding if they are missing on my cell phone.

On my Samsung smartphone using my wi-fi I tried to watch ABC and got a message that my location services were off. I turned it on and was able to watch ABC World News just fine. And a Bally channel.

Later report using the T-Mobile phone network.

Jrandomuser: I am not able to get the locals and RGN on my TV's again this morning. So I did what you asked by seeing if my smartphone shows them when using my home wi-fi and using my T-Mobile phone network. Yes for both ways on phone.

The locals & RGNs are also missing when watching TV on my PC,

That’s usually a sign that they are confused about where your devices are. Mobile devices have GPS and can report their actual physical location, but the other devices don’t and can’t. For those they usually use your billing address, which (assuming your billing address matches your physical location) sounds like what you want. I’ve never heard of your situation, where the location comes and goes. (That was a problem in the early days, when they used a different method for trying to determine physical location. But that shouldn’t be an issue now.) And I don’t really have any suggestions for you – it sort of sounds like your account is periodically getting messed up and then restored. You would think if you gave them a good description of the problem that they’d be able to look into it.

They are terrible at directly contacting subscribers when they say they will.  But DIRECTVhelp said they PM’ed you, so you can reply to that and maybe they can either look at your account or escalate the issue (or find out if it actually was escalated and get some status for you).

I had the same problem and was told it was because I didn’t have a static IP address.

Thanks Dmcg. I have brought that to the attention of the DirecTv support group. Looks like a promising possibility.

I believe they are following these posts...but just in case.

Earlier today about 8 am I didn't have my locals again on my TVs and PC...just my smartphones were OK.

I checked again at 5:45pm and the locals are now OK everywhere. Did somebody tweak something at DirecTv? That's the first time I had them show back up the same day they were missing earlier.

Stay tuned.

Dcmg: You said you have had this problem and DTV support said it was because you don't have a Static IP address. Did they get you or tell you how to get a static IP address? If not, what was done? was the problem solved?

My internet provider does not provide static IP addresses for residential customers- only for commercial customers. I checked into the price for a commercial account and it was cost prohibitive. I found many internet providers have the same policy. I had to leave DIRECTV Stream and go to another streaming service to get reliable local channels and regional sports.

Thank you Dmcg. So DTV Support became/or was aware of this problem being due to dynamic  IP addresses used by your internet provider but could not resolve it for you. Currently the only other streaming service that I know of that offers the RGNs as part of their package is Fubo. Hulu used to, but they didn't renew their contract. That's why I went to DirecTv stream.
