Manual recording on Directv Stream

Hi there,

I'm using Fubo.tv right now but one thing that is missing is the ability to extend a manually recorded channel for extra time.  For example, I want to record a hockey game on TNT but I want to add 3 extra hours in case of overtime.

Can this be done on Directv Stream?

Thanks

Not manually. DirecTV is rolling a new automatic extension feature for sports broadcasts, but it's not 100% perfect yet. Best bet is to simply set a recording for whatever show is broadcast after the sports event.

Games I record are automatically extended.

Last week a game I had recorded was interrupted for weather.  It was rescheduled to resume the next morning.  In the guide, the game to be resumed was not listed.  I however selected the programs on that channel at that time to record.  When I wanted to watch the resumed game, I found that those recordings never happened - likely because those shows never happened.  I figure I should have checked to see if by the morning the resumed game would be listed.  However, a simple solution would be to allow manual recordings to be made, that is, simply specifying time and channel.  I could not find a way to do that.  Is that an as of yet improvement to be made?  I fear the same thing would happen following the above advice to set to record the following shows.

There are still no manual recording options - either to modify a programmed recording or to create one from scratch.

However, I’m surprised it didn’t do the recordings at the times you requested even though those shows weren’t on - that implies that the program guide info was updated in between when you set the recordings and when they were supposed to happen and that the DVR checks the guide again even after it was set. I wouldn’t have thought either was true.   But yes - that implies you should have checked in the morning, which is a bit of a pain. I wonder if you had a team recording set whether it would have picked up the resumed game automatically?

Thanks, Jrandomuser.  I would hope that a future update would allow manual recording.  I do indeed have recordings set up for all of the team's games.  It obviously failed to pick up the hastily scheduled resumed game.

Since the DVR is “in the cloud” and your device is only involved in sending requests (for recording and viewing) to it, for these sorts issues it shouldn’t matter which streaming device you are using.

Two games in a row the recording cuts off at least two batters before the end of the game.  This is with the automatic extension feature invoked.  This software is not yet ready.

The "auto-extend feature" has been there for several years - it isn't new, though it has been added to new sports over time.  It at least used to depend on a signal coming from the content (coverage) provider (RSN or whatever) to indicate when the game was over.  If that signal was wrong, then the recording would be wrong. I don't know if that is still the mechanism they use, though I wouldn't be surprised - I'd doubt they have someone watching every event.  What was the source (channel) of the coverage?  If it was a Bally RSN, I wonder if Bally's current issues has impacted this.  (Bally is in bankruptcy, and some of the coverage they "own" has been pulled from them to the league - particularly in the case of MLB.)

Regardless, even if the auto-extend was reliable, I think they still need a manual mechanism also, because not all things are supported by the auto-extend.  Manual extend has been requested since the DVR feature was in beta test, which was 6 years ago.  Since no one "out here" knows how they implement things, it's hard to say why they haven't added it.  For some ways that they could implement the DVR, it would seem pretty easy to add - for others it could be very difficult (and the auto-extend would have been easier).  Nevertheless, it's enough of an issue that it seems they should have figured something out by now.

Not Bally.  It's Spectrum SportsNet LA.  It worked OK the last two games.  But I'm glad I only need DTV Stream temporarily.
