My solution stopped my picture freeze
I had for months experienced temporary, irritating picture freeze only on DirecTV stream. No other apps.
Freeze would disappear after few seconds for good until I switched channels. Same freeze each channel switch.
I use a Roku box with wireless connection to cable internet provider modem.
I called Roku AND DTV techs for months with no solutions.
Finally a Best Buy tech suggested I delete some apps from Roku box and empty cache. I did.
That helped enormously but not totally. BTW I had a 2017 (5 yr old) Roku Premiere box.
I called Roku again to discuss new info. They suggested an updated box since newer technology can make difference in streaming data.
I found a Roku Ultra (top of line) online refurbished saving $30. Bought it. Looks and packaged like new one. Hooked it up.
No more picture freeze. Older LG tv looks like new.

This is most of the time due to older and less powerful Roku devices as you have discovered. Over time, updates and countless new features slow down the old Roku to the point where streaming live TV is not a good experience. I’m glad you had an easy solution to your problem and I appreciate your suggestion.

You could have gotten a refurbished Dtv Stream box with remote (for the best experience) from Dtv for 49.99 with a 1yr warranty. The box has google play store so you can use your others apps too (like netflix, hulu etc)

@Ludwick577 true that probably would have been a better choice but I have seen cases where some people prefer one UI/streaming device over the other and choose to stick just to that. Although, the DIRECTV STREAM Osprey Box really is the best.
