Persistent Audio Sync Issues (Roku / DIRECTV STREAM)

Everything I try to watch on DIRECTV STREAM for Roku has an audio / video sync issue where the video lags at least 3s behind the audio. Often the delay is much worse.

”Everything” is not an exaggeration. This issue occurred with NBC, ABC, Fox, CBS, HBO, ESPN, Paramount, MTV, BabyTV, NBCSN, TNT, and various recorded programming.

I do not experience a similar issue with the other streaming apps downloaded to my Roku. This list includes Xfinity TV, Netflix, HBO Max and Prime Video.

I have tried several system restarts and app re-downloads with no luck. Calls to AT&T customer service have been fruitless. I have read these forums and have yet to see a legitimate answer to this issue. Is there anyone on this forum who can help?

Probably not a solution but I had Spectrum 100 mbps service and had the same issue, I could reboot my network and my DIRECTV STREAM box and it would get little better but after a while it would be out of sync again. I switched to AT&T Fiber 1000, and no more sync issues, making me believe it was an issue with the Spectrum.

That is not a solution since fiber is not an option at my household.

We're to help @josephpeters.

We understand that you're having trouble with audio not being sync to video. Don't worry we have a few steps you can try to sync your audio.

Sound or volume issues

If DIRECTV STREAM doesn’t play any sound, plays sound out of sync with the video, or has other sound problems, try these options:

  • Check the volume level and mute settings on your TV and any audio-visual (A/V) receivers you may have.
  • Check audio settings on your device using your remote: Press the Home button, then Settings > System > Remote & Devices > Program Your Remote > Advanced Remote Program > Switch Volume Control.
  • Make sure that your optical audio cable or HDMI cable is snugly attached to your device, the TV, and any A/V receivers.
  • Connect your device to a different input to see if you can hear sound.
  • Fix DIRECTV STREAM device issues

Please let us know if that works for you.

No, none of these solutions worked to sync the audio with the video. The video continues to lag 5-10 seconds behind the audio.

Yeah.... Mine is terrible. The lag right now is 33 seconds. The longer I watch, the worse it gets. And these "solutions" are a joke. I have 11 apps on my Roku, one of which is from a whole nother country, and DIRECTV STREAM is the only one doing this.

If youtube TV would just pick up Sinclair regional sports, I'd drop this like a hot rock.

This at&t app is ridiculous and the fact that they haven’t fixed this audio lag for years is even more ridiculous. We switched from YouTube TV so that we could get regional sports but it is impossible to watch tv making  DIRECTV STREAM worthless.  We use a roku and have no issues with any of the other apps. Completely frustrating. DIRECTV is the worst.

Hey kids! Here's a fun update... 111 seconds!! ONE HUNDRED AND ELEVEN SECONDS! Do I win a prize if I get to a full 2 minute lag?!

Come on Bally RSNs!! Mama needs a dedicated app so she can go back to YouTube TV!!

Kwa3, switching back to You Tube won't help, under current requirements, even if Bally had an app. Most apps require you to have a subscription to their channel, through your cable, satellite or streaming provider, in order to use them. Bally would have to change their requirements, set forth by Fox Sports, and I am sure would bring a lot of controversy.

We have the same issue but only on one of our TVs. We have three different Roku streaming devices and it only lags on our vizio tv. We also have an Apple TV on one of our TVs and that works fine. It’s super irritating. You can briefly pause and play and it syncs up again for about 10 seconds and then it’s off again. It makes no sense and is super frustrating! We used to use Amazon fire sticks but adding the DIRECTV STREAM app somehow destroyed them. We totally reset them and everything. This is ridiculous. We have 1tb internet service with download speeds consistently over 900mbps.

I just got off the phone with DIRECTV and they told me that it was my internet speed.  I have AT&T internet and they said I would have to upgrade.  This makes no sense since every other app on my Roku works just fine, it is only an issue with my DIRECTV STREAM app.  And, this makes absolutely no sense when I read Ptstolz's comment because all of his tv's are, I assume, all on the same internet network at a higher internet speed. We would switch back to You Tube TV but they don't carry regional sports  and now they are fighting with ROKU.

If DIRECTV can’t fix their streaming problem maybe they need to get out of streaming business all together. Me like 99% that’s having problems HAVE to use their service to watch Baseball. The ONLY app on my ROKU That has a Video/Audio Synchronization Problem!!! RIDICULOUS... As for Customer Support and Troubleshooting worse than RIDICULOUS!!!

SAME ISSUE. So sick and tired of it. It really is unwatchable. Most likely DIRECTV  won't fix their streaming app so they can try and force you back into the contract TV trap. They also know most everyone is only using it to stream the Bally Sports or whatever regional sports network they want, so they lure them in with that and then trap them into wanting it TO ACTUALLY BE VIEWABLE so they convince them to pay more for internet (which I have done in recent months anyway, and it didn't help one bit) or pay more for Cable. They're total crooks.

I’m not convinced that DIRECTV STREAM are total crooks, but definitely customer issue resolution is low on the priority list. Thus finding a solution is up to you, despite the financial outlay. So I’ve posted this before, but if you have a sound bar, sometimes plugging the DIRECTV STREAM box into the sound bar can work. I do think that device mismatches can be an issue as well across HDMI. Running my TiVo Stream and the side loaded DIRECTV STREAM app gives me the sync issue when plugged into my Samsung tv, but if I plug it into my TCL tv there is no issue. As well, the DIRECTV STREAM box does not have a sync issue when plugged directly into my TCL, but does on the Samsung. Sorry I don’t have a 100% guaranteed instruction list, but maybe try some other equipment variations, if you have them.

Finding a solution should be up to the ones charging (too much) for the service they offer. I don't have enough hours in the day to do their job for them. Once my team is out of the running this baseball season, I'm pulling the plug and just hoping next season I can get KC baseball on some other provider (and I don't even know what a "DIRECTV STREAM box" is. I'm just too fed up to care honestly.)

I have the DIRECTV STREAM app on my ruku tv and the app was lagging bad. I went to my ruku settings and went to audio, then to audio mode and put it on stereo and it worked. At least for now
