Persistent Audio Sync Issues (Roku / DIRECTV STREAM)

Everything I try to watch on DIRECTV STREAM for Roku has an audio / video sync issue where the video lags at least 3s behind the audio. Often the delay is much worse.

”Everything” is not an exaggeration. This issue occurred with NBC, ABC, Fox, CBS, HBO, ESPN, Paramount, MTV, BabyTV, NBCSN, TNT, and various recorded programming.

I do not experience a similar issue with the other streaming apps downloaded to my Roku. This list includes Xfinity TV, Netflix, HBO Max and Prime Video.

I have tried several system restarts and app re-downloads with no luck. Calls to AT&T customer service have been fruitless. I have read these forums and have yet to see a legitimate answer to this issue. Is there anyone on this forum who can help?

Can't believe people still actually use ATT Direct. I've gone back to YouTube TV. It's brilliant and besides the occasional buffering, which is very occasional, no problems at all.  AT&T literally doesn't support this product because they don't give a (Edited per community guidelines).

Happy to help with your Roku streaming, @hppate.

Try these tips to help sync your sound.

1.Check the volume level and mute settings on your TV and any audio-visual       receivers you may have.
2.Check audio settings on your device using your remote:

.  Press the Home button, then Settings, System, Remote & Devices, Program your Remote, Advanced Remote Program, Switch Volume Control.

1.Make sure that your optical audio cable or HDMI cable is snugly attached to    your device, the TV and any A/V receivers.
2.Connect your device to a different input to see if you can hear sound.

We have more Roku and Audio and Visual tips here.

To whoever suggested checking the display type to 720, thank you! It worked. I'm an AT&T employee and noticed this issue on my Roku stick connected to a Vizio tv. I didn't have this issue on the firestick connected to a Toshiba tv, plus the Roku tv I recently bought to replace the Toshiba worked just fine. Just the Roku stick. This solution works!

I agree with those who have 'fixed' or 'worked around' by changing display/video resolution from 1080p to 720p.   I just tested going back and forth twice between those settings, and indeed, 1080p video lags, and 720p video does not.  I have a Roku Express HD device on Wifi with 200Mbps fiber.  Directv Stream is the only app on this device that I have this issue with.  Netflix, Apple TV, and others all work just fine.
I don't like that I can't watch DirecTV Stream in 1080p, but for most purposes, it's adequate, just not optimal.  It would be nice if DirecTV would acknowledge the issue, and upgrade their Roku app.   (hint, hint, nudge, nudge, DirecTV!!)

Make sure audio output on the directv settings is set for stereo not surround sound… or vice versa depending on your setup.

Thanks to this site I tried the the display change to 720p and it worked! But I really don’t like having to downgrade my picture quality for all my apps due to DirectTV’s shortcomings.

A little history: this started happening about 2 years ago shortly after I got the app. Toggling back and forth with changing the audio settings every couple of weeks worked and then the problem stopped for a year.
This week, problem came back with a vengeance!
DirectTV, once and for all, own the problem and fix your &$!&@!!
