Recording live tv while watching using Apple TV remote. Sometimes works sometimes doesn't.

Hi, 

I am new to Directv stream - signed up yesterday.  I watch using the app on my Apple TV.  I tried to record shows while watching last night.  It seemed to work on some networks - I would swipe down on the track pad of the remote while whatching the show and get info - sometimes it would just have "info" and "CC" options and sometimes it would have "record" as an option also.  Mostly NBC networks but others too didn't have the "record" option.  It did have that option while watching other networks like Tennis Channel.  I am able to set a series recording for a show using the guide for NBC shows, but not the show I was currently watching - only future shows.  Many timd tn pause, but then if someone changes the channel it's gone so I record to make sure I can finish the show later.  What am I missing?  I am trying to be a chord cutter and switched to DirecTV stream from Hulu Live so that I could get Tennis Channel, but so far it is not user friendly using Apple TV as my reciever.  Please help.
