Recording only new shows

When I setup a series to record, I select to record "New Shows", not "All Shows". The DVR keeps recording the series shows that are in syndication on numerous channels, so at the end of a week, I may have 20 or more recordings of that series when all I want are the new shows. I have gone in and cancelled the series and then setup the series again, but to no avail.

I have had that same issue with DIRECTV. As I have said in another post, I figured out that going to the day and time of the program on the Guide that you want to record and recording the program or series/first run from there solved my problems. Sometimes, you don't know the actual series start date or whatever, but that's what it took to stop the 20-30 recording from syndication, etc. for me. Just my 2 cents.

We are in Day 5 of the 14 day grace period after transitioning to DIRECTV STREAM (streaming) and find that, so far, it seems to be much easier (with voice, even) to find and record actual first-run programs without all the unwanted occurances from other channels. Having said that, and because DIRECTV STREAM is a streaming service, I just finished installing two dual-band repeaters to boost the signal over to the kitchen TV and the master bedroom and bath at the other end of the house. 100% signal on both. The point being that tonight will be the first time I'll really look at the system and how it resonds to requests for 'first run only' programs. No, this is not a commercial for DIRECTV STREAM. :-)

I wish us all luck.

Be well.

What ddunk1946 said is what I figured out with the att tv device on my own a month ago and it works

I’ve tried that with a sports talk show on ESPN. It airs at 5:30 EST, and the network replays that episode 6-7 times, before the next show. System is recording all of them.

The way I have solved this issue was to use the DIRECTV STREAM phone app. Search for the show, tap record series, tap new episodes.

This is a show stopper for us, just having switched from U-verse TV to DIRECTV STREAM. Also looking at the GUIDE, there is no way to determine if a show is being recorded, where U-verse displayed a red dot on a program that was being or scheduled to be recorded.

This is likely short lived, we didn’t switch to have LESS functionality than what U-verse provided, it’s like a beta version of something that was not thoroughly tested before release.

I know the feeling, Squawk. As you may have read, I bailed on DIRECTV STREAM in a week, back to DTV. We still stream, but it's on Netflix, Paramount, HBO Max, IMDB, Amazon Prime, etc. etc.

I'm not sure it's ready for prime time without serious Internet speeds.

Be well!

I’ve got the max speed they can offer here (piddly 100) but the unfixed bugs in DIRECTV STREAM that per the posts in here have existed unfixed for over 3 years tells me DIRECTV is not serious with this offering and is driving people to viable alternatives.

...and that option is still available. The service is what it is.
