Recording programs to the very end

Some programs that I record don't record to the very end of the program.  It sometimes ends with a minute or two left of the program.  This has happened with live sport especially where games are not over however the recording just ends and asks if I want to save or delete it. 

Has this happened to anyone else or is this an equipment issue?
