Screen goes black with progress circle every 5 minutes or so.

TV screen periodically goes black with rotating circle in the center and lasts for 3 to 5 seconds. Over the course of an hour it will happen 4 or 5 times. This started happening recently. I am streaming through the app on a Samsung TV. I have Verizon Fios fiber internet running over 900 Mbps. Any ideas what might be causing this?

There is an update for Samsung's app they posted in redditforum yesterday and they also sent out an email. Go into the apps area on the Samsung tv and click onto Dtv STream it should update.

A lot of people are having issues with the Samsung app. Here are some things you can check that might help.

I'm having this same issue.  I keep getting messages that tell me to wait because the video is loading.  Then nothing happens.  I have to turn my TV off and then on and usually the issue is solved for a short time.  This happens 4-5 times in an hour.  Started about 4 weeks ago.  I don't use the Samsung app although my TV is a Samsung.  I got my streaming device through AT&T when this service was still AT&T TV.  At times I get a message that I have no internet connection - which isn't true - and when I run the diagnostics it shows that I'm still connected.  I spoke to someone @ DirecTV a few days after this started to happen and they said they'd get back to me.  Haven't heard from them since.  If I reset my streaming device and wait for it to reboot the problem is resolved, but only for a short time.  Maybe 10-15 minutes or so.  I should note that I have two TVs, each with it's own streaming device.  This is only happening on one of my TVs; the other doesn't have any issues.

Swap the devices and see if the problem goes with the device. Also are you using WiFi? Is the problem TV farther away from the router then the good one?

Same thing is happening with both Edge and Chrome web browsers.  This service is becoming unwatchable.

Well its not the service. Everyone has different environment - modems. routers, ISP's, etc. Service is fine for me and I travel a lot using local WiFi's. Blockers, extensions, VPN's, virus checkers, etc can impact performance. You need to look at your environment and make adjustments. What you are experiencing is nothing more then congestion somewhere along the data path from the originator to your system causing buffering of the data. Are you using WiFi or Ethernet? Any other devices being used on the network? Have you tried another internet location?

I am encountering the same issue.  I also travel frequently and have encountered this on every recording on the cloud DVR.  Some shows, it will black-out every five minutes, some just once or twice.  However, this has occurred on both the iOS app as well as the direct website.  This has been occurring for me since the switchover from AT&T to Directv Stream.  And yes, my iOS app is update as well as my browsers (tried on multiple machines & internet connections).

I rarely use the OnDemand or cloud for content. Most networks over the content thru their apps that perform better and have more content.

Thank you @bcbsncjlj , unfortunately not all content providers are offering current content on their apps, which is why I was recording.  When the content is available via the app, I have utilized it with no disruption.  But, it still does not resolve the black-out with Directv content, live or recorded.

I am having the same issue with the screen going black very often. This started within the last week or so., I watch/stream using Chrome Browser on Windows 10.   I lose part of the program I was watching when this happens.  I sometimes have to go to the Guide and reload the program I was watching because the screen stays black! Its very frustrating, I miss a lot of what I was watching.

Additionally, when I record a program and play it back the same thing occurs.

Is this happening to other subscribers?  It makes a program unwatchable when it happens frequently.

I had this service when it was DirecTVNow, then AT&T TV Now and now its DirectTVStream. I'm seriously thinking of cancelling since this happens quite often.  Is this a known issue or is it something with streaming on my laptop? Is there a setting that I need to look at? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

Have you tried watching using incognito mode?

Thanks for responding. No, that is something I haven't tried yet. I did try using Edge to see if the same thing occurred which it did.

I will give incognito mode a try.  Thanks for the suggestion.

(edited for grammar)

* Also, it appears to have stopped happening for now. If it does begin to black screen again I will switch modes to test.  Thanks.

Hello there - just an update...

=======================

When I tried Incognito mode all kinds of strange things started to happen. The screen froze but the volume continued. I had to go to the guide and select my program again.  Then I had sound problems. I went back to running it normally but the screen still goes black periodically. Even my recordings are playing back with black screen and I miss parts of my recorded show!

Why is this suddenly happening? It is very frustrating. Is this only happening to me? I don't see anything regarding others having this issue streaming with Windows 10/Chrome.

Unfortunately this is the only way I can watch at the moment.   Anyway, I'm just wondering if I am the only person experiencing this?

Thanks.

The black screen and buffering icon started happening for us a few times each day for a few weeks now but no language shift. Usually, even turning the TV off and turning it or another on nets the same issue. Then, we'll have TV again at some point. This TV issue is happening on all three of our TVs, 2 Visio and 1 Sony. One of the Visio panels is only a month old. It seems to have started shortly after we were force-pushed from AT&T Streaming to DirecTV Streaming. Checks for outages states nothing is wrong in our area. It's not our IP service because we still have web access and phone service, which are both with another provider. What gives DirecTV!?!? We're seriously considering dumping this TV streaming service.
