Sony Bravia XBR - no app in goggle play story
Migrated from my DIRECTV sat to DIRECTVstream today. Surprised to find NO app in the google store....whats with that?
It's possible to cast from your phone to the SONY TV, but that is very inconvenient. The image does not always scale to full screen.
Think twice about DIRECTV stream if you have a SONY Bravia XBR.

You should have checked the Supported Devices information at the DirecTV Stream website. But the bottom line is that native TV Apps are generally garbage. Witness all of the issues posted here with the Samsung DirecTV Stream App. You'll have a much better experience with a $30 Roku or FireStick.

Your first attempt at fixing this should be to clear the Google Play Store and Google Play Services cache. Additionally, you can uninstall and reinstall updates on the Google Play Store. Also, make sure you are running the latest software available for your Android device.

As far as I know DirecTV has its own products and often announces compatibility on different topic sites. If you even take for example https://www.bestessaytips.com/review_essay.php review on Stream App, you can see that it's not only you who's had this happen and it's written about it everywhere. You just need to double-check all the nuances beforehand. You choose a laptop by its features and a furniture by its size. It's the same with DirecTV. They have their own products and I believe they have done everything possible to ensure that you can use the network without any problems.

The issue is the OS on the Sony is not supported. The only Smart TV supported is Samsung and not all models are supported. It's as simple as that.

Clearing and reinstalling updates on Google Play Store and Google Play Services is a good way to fix this issue. Additionally, you can uninstall the current app version on your Android device and install a new one. Make sure you are running the latest software available for your devices!

Ok, you people are unbelievable. I spoke to ATT when they forced me off of my Uverse system for this. They said it works with smart tv's. The reality I was forced to make a change by them, and for all practical purposes, was lied to. A few Samsung TV's is NOT the definition of "smart tv's" I have three rokus, and will use one, but the interface is crap and I'm back to juggling multiple remotes again. At least I have 5 days to find another service.

@EmmaBrook There is no app for the Sony Smart TV. Nothing you mentioned is going to help. The OS is not supported is the reason you can not download the app.

Not supported is a choice by DirecTV. Please quit acting like their hands are tied and there's nothing they can do. All of the larger live tv streaming services have one. I actually side loaded an older version of the app that didn't.work due to a DirecTV software update

@SRB151 I have the Dtv stream app sideloaded onto my android tv device and it works fine. If you sideload the correct version it works.

Nevermind, since I just got on, I was within my 5 day trial. As many of you have aptly pointed out, it was clear that DirecTV does not and in all probability will not support Sony tvs with Google tv android. Easiest solution was to change to one of the many that does. Enjoyed my time here, and good luck to all.
P.S. The point never was that they promised support for Sony (customer service aside), or that they should change, it's their decision and their business. It's just that, to me, alienating a very large group of television owners just because, seems like a very poor business decision. Sorry you don't see it this way.

There is no app for Sony and never had been. You need to use an external streaming device.

@PopinGlutin I spent 45 minutes on the phone with DirecTV during the cancellation, there is no option. As I said above, DirecTV is the ONLY live stream service that doesn't have a generic Google TV app.
@Ludwick577 Define inferior. Right off the bat, this was a HUGE step down from my Uverse, but the new bill of $137 for basic cable wasn't worth the difference. I just completed my sign up with a competitor, more channels, covered all of the same ones I'd have had here, longer cloud dvr, and a lower price.
@bcbsncjlj I think your just trying to help (I hope), but I have 2 roku boxes, 2 suitable cell phones, can get the box, etc. Call me stubborn, but I doubt it would cost them much if anything to fix their app for generic Google TV, and I don't feel like loosing the convenience of one remote and no boxes. BTW, for what it's worth, there is no "Sony OS" It's Android TV/Google TV, just like every other google based smart tv. LG is WebOS, and I think Samsung uses some Tizen code in their skin to customize it, nut not sure.
I'm still amazed that a DirecTV mod or customer service rep doesn't just post a canned reply or an faq as to why they won't do it (if there is a reason), or, that they're considering it working on it, etc. Esp since this question will probably pick up as they drive more Uverse and Directv sat customers off their current platforms.
The vitriol from fanboys is really not necessary and over the top.
