Stream Device Impacted By Being in Media Box Behind TV?

I have a Samsung Frame, and my DirecTV Stream box is in a media box behind the Frame that was cut into my fireplace. As an RF remote, this shouldn't be an issue. However, my box frequently becomes unpaired, the remote is slow is turning channels and occasionally the TV even responds in an odd manner.

Would the placement of the box be an issue here? This was a professionally installed media box, and something that's pretty common. It's one reason to even have a Samsung Frame.
