Netgear router/modem, running 5g via ethernet. Samsung tv. Only TV on wifi for soundbar.

Thats your problem the Samsung TV. The app is defective and everyone is having trouble. 100's of posts in the forum. the app has never been dependable. There are no fixes. You need to use an external device for the service or seek another service.

Yup, the Samsung DirecTV Stream App is junk. You'll have much better experience with a $30 Roku or FireStick.
