Stuttering and lagging

Just signed up for DTVStream, and man I'm thinking I should have gone with another service. The app is STRUGGLING to stream anything to my chromecast, on either TV I have in my house and is lagging and chugging badly. Never had any issues with the chromecast with any other service or app, but now this service seems to be broken. Tried all the normal trouble shooting steps and still not getting any better.

Have you tried another device like Roku? It seems some of the users struggle with CCWGTV - e.g., https://www.reddit.com/r/DirectvStream/comments/12saak0/dtvs_integration_with_android_google_tv_really/

I haven't tried using a Roku yet, as I've never had the need to own one. I'm not thrilled about the thought of having to buy one to actually make the streaming service work correctly.. it just further makes me want to request a refund and switch to Fubo.

What sort of internet service do you have?  Download speed?

Does the same thing happen with the DirecTV App on your phone/tablet?

At&t fiber. No issues with anything internet or app related until I tried this service.

No. This has never happen, with any app, or any other streaming service before, until now.

So it's working fine on your phone/tablet app, but not Chromecast?

Again.. I have had zero issues with mt chromecast with any other streaming service, app, or anything that could use the chromecast until I tried using the DirectTvStream app. This is the first app that hasnt functioned properly with both chromecasts I own.

You didn't answer the important question from litzdog911.  Is it working on your phone/tablet?

Are you casting to the Chromecast from the phone, or are you running the native DirecTV app on an AndroidTV device (“Chromecast with Google TV”)?

I am using the directtv app on my android phone and casting it to the chromecast connected to the tv.

So the problem is with the casting from the phone to your TV. You should be able to install the DirecTV Stream app on your Chromecast device directly. Try that.

@litzdog911
You can only install apps on the newer “Chromecast with Google TV” devices - those are basically AndroidTV streamers. The “traditional” Chromecast devices could only be the target of a cast - no native apps.   I am assuming from the phrasing that the OP has the latter.

@Btraughber
I’ve never used a “real” Chromecast - just casted to another device that supported casting to try it out.  So I can’t say if there’s a general problem casting DTV Stream to one or not. However, it’s been supported for a long time and I don’t remember seeing complaints about just casting. (A reasonable number of complaints that you couldn’t cast DVR recordings, though, so I’m sure people used it.)  It’s possible they broke something fairly recently or it might be that there’s something in your environment that it doesn’t like.  The app has traditionally been “fussier” about the quality of the internet connection (not so much the speed) than some other streaming apps - especially those from on-demand services (Netflix, Prime, etc.) - perhaps it does less buffer ahead, which might be harder for a live streaming service to do.   Do you see the same issue if you just watch on your phone?  If so, try your phone with cell data rather than WiFi and see.
