Switched to Direct TV streaming and can no longer access TCM on Roku or TCM app

Switched from ATT Uverse to Direct TV streaming last week. I used to be able to watch TCM movies on my Roku.  When I try to watch a movie now, TCM says  “Authorization for this content failed.” When I try to watch TCM from the IPad app I get the message “sorry, your cable subscription does not include this content.”  My new direct TV package does include TCM.

I have tried signing out, removing the app from Roku, rebooting Roku, reinstalling app, re-authorizing TCM. I go to the activation screen, then log in to direct tv account, then enter the activation code.  On my  computer screen, it says that activation is successful, but then when I click on a TCM movie, I still get those error messages.

I’m waving the white flag here. Any advice would be helpful.

Thank you,

Kristin

You are a subscriber to DirecTV Stream and not DirecTV satellite, correct? They are 2 different services. I don't see TCM as a valid app supported by DirecTV Stream. The full list is located here

Yes, TCM is included with my DIRECTV stream package. I can watch it live any time I want and I can also access it through the on-demand function. It just doesn’t work any longer on the Roku app or on the app I have on my iPad.

Oh, I understand what you’re saying now. You’re saying that DIRECTV stream doesn’t support the actual app. I guess that makes sense. Thanks for the heads up!

Correct. The app is not supported using DirecTV Stream authentication. The list shows what they support.

I really appreciate you posting an answer! I have tagged that page and will check it periodically to see if they add the  TCM app to their lineup.

That's interesting - I just checked on an Apple device and the TCM app worked fine, authenticated to DirecTV Stream (letting it authenticate using the device's defined "TV Provider").  On the TCM website they indicated that DTV Stream is supported for web access.  However, in their FAQ, they don't show Roku as a supported device (even though there clearly at least used to be a Roku app) - just Apple devices, Android phones, and FireTV devices.  No idea what that means - I haven't tried checking yet.  In any case, that wouldn't explain your problems on an Apple device.

One possibility occurs to me - do you use the same credentials for DTV Stream as you used to for U-Verse?  There is a (long known) issue that users who switch from DTV satellite to DTV Stream with the same credentials have problems, apparently because the DTV (AT&T) account management system doesn't distinguish those 2 services properly.  You would think the same problem wouldn't exist between U-Verse and DTV Stream, but perhaps it does.

Thanks for the information; yes, I do use the same credentials that I used when I had U-verse because they just switched the service onto my original account. Do you know if those that have difficulty switching from satellite to stream have had the problem resolved?
