Tv keeps flickering on and off
When I turn my DIRECTV STREAM unit and tv on, it shows the picture and sound for 1-2 seconds. But then starts to flicker every 3-8 seconds to a black screen with no sound. I’ve checked all wires to make sure nothing is lose and there is always power to the unit because when it goes blank the lights on the DIRECTV STREAM box and TV are still on. Any suggestions? I JUST got this tv and unit less then 5 months ago!

Good morning @rllash2014,
Let's take a further look into this together so we can get you back to streaming.
Which brand of TV do you currently have your DIRECTV STREAM device connected to? Also, are you experiencing this on any other devices such as your phone or computer?

I have the same problem and I also have a Vizio TV. I talked to an DIRECTV Tech for almost an hour last Thursday with him doing things on his end to try to fix the problem. Then he tells me its is only happening with the Vizio TV's and several Vizio customers have complained. It is a problem that happened last week when DIRECTV did a software update that did not work with the Vizio TV's. He told me the software people were aware of the problem and were working on a solution. Well, that was a week ago! I will be calling them again tomorrow and if they can't fix this problem that they created I want out of this DIRECTV contract and I will get a service that works. At this point I feel like DIRECTV doesn't care about their customer service after they get you to sign a 2 year contract!

I am having the same issue. The tech I talked to didn’t seem to know anything about the software update. He seems to think a new box will fix the issue. We shall see.

We had the same experience. We chatted in with a tech and they are sending us a new bow as well. I'm hesitate though because we took another box that was connected to a tv in a different room that was working perfectly fine, and when we plugged it into our main Vizo TV that same flickering happened.

WARNING TO ALL PEOPLE WITH VIZIO TV's. I have had the WORST experience. I was ran in circles for 4 days, agents telling me I needed a new box and that it was being ordered. Days later turns out no one actually ordered it and I was instructed to call in for a specialist.
I finally get through to a tech support specialist named Laura and she tells me, sending a new box will not fix the issue because the problem is with the Vizio tv. She said multiple other Vizio tv owners were calling in. Advised me to change a setting on the tv to turn FULL UHD Color on and that will fix it. Well guess what. That option on my tv was gray and unclickable. I was told to move the HDMI to different ports and in each HDMI port it was still grayed out and unclickbable. At that point, Laura sighed and said that the engineers are working on it. So I can't use my main 65 inch tv until the "engineers fix this issue". I am livid. Why am I paying over $95 a month for a cable plan that I can't even use until quote "the engineers fix it." She basically told me I'm out of luck until IF and WHEN these supposedly engineers fix whatever the issue is with ATT TV and Vizio.
Here were the steps to turn this UHD thing on that supposedly is suppose to fix everything.
Use Vizio remote not the DIRECTV STREAM one
Go to menu
Click on input settings
click the HDMI that the DIRECTV STREAM box is connected to
Click FULL UHD COLOR so that it turns to ON
It (Edited per community guidelines)d be fixed now according to tech support
**And if you're like me and the FULL UHD COLOR option is unclickable. Well you are out of luck according to DIRECTV**
So to everyone with a Vizio that was told they were getting sent a new box, that's not going to work.

OMG, I think I had the same person from DIRECTV STREAM trying to fix my Vizio Tv with the same problems yesterday, Friday, September 4th. She claimed she knew how to fix it and had fix Vizio TV's with the same problem for 3 people. She led me through the very same steps you experienced over and over again for a solid 2 hours having me do many of the same things over and over until she finally had me reset my DIRECTV STREAM Box, couldn't get it to reboot, wiped out my DIRECTV imput icon from my TV, couldn't fix it, then claimed it was a problem with my Vizio TV and only Vizio could fix it. She gave me their Tech Support number. I am not going to call Vizio and tell them to fix a problem caused by DIRECTV cause I'm sure they will tell me it's a problem with DIRECTV and I will get nothing but a run around. What really amazed me is that I told her I wanted a Tech from DIRECTV to come to my house and fix their problem and she said we never send a Tech to anyone's house cause we are trained to fix your problems online!!!!!!! What????? How are you capable of fixing my problem online?? I feel like you made my problem even worse! I've only had DIRECTV STREAM for 3 months and am currently stuck with a system that doesn't work unless I myself fix it. Oh yes, I can pay $15 a month times 21 months to get out of this horrible service!!

Hello all!
I have been suffering with the same issue for the past week but JUST found a solution from another forum. If you are trying to enable the full UHD color but it is greyed out and not an option, make sure that your TV is in the correct input BEFORE you open up the menu and input settings. I had the exact same problem as rllash2014, and that I could not turn the Full UHD Color "on", but realized I was on the wrong input. Once I switched to the correct input that my ATT Box is connected to, it worked for me!! The channels seem to work now with no glitching. Hope this works for you all!

I got mine fixed I had to put in a high definition cable instead of the cable the supplied. I had to plug it into the hdmi marked arc and I had to make sure my tv was off and lower the box and turn just it on. I had to wait for it to load completely then turned my tv on. Then I had to put my tv on input 1 and bam it worked

I had a similar problem with my Hisense TV--the solution seems to be change the HDMI format from standard (default I guess) to enhanced. No flashing!

I have tried all of these and nothing has worked. I had zero issues with directv and my vizio for 8 months and all of a sudden it start doing the blackout for a few seconds. And It only happens on local channels. But for some reason the UHD setting is not on my 4K HDR vizio. When i go to input settings the only thing it shows is hidden or visible. This all is super aggravating.
any new suggestions to fixes?
I’ve tried new directv boxes, new hdmi cords, different ports. Anything helps

I have a Hisense 4K tv and have the same issue. It actually worked while setting up but then the box gets an update and the channels blink.
